The Attractiveness
The biggest attraction of the Mercedes-Benz W115 and W114 saloons was that, whether one bought it as a taxi or as a representative saloon, they were very similar to each other. And this was a great advantage, because each was built to the strictest factory standards.
This meant that W115s were widespread on roads all over the world in the 1970s. Many are still in service today, thanks to their legendary reliability. Although largely unchanged during their long lives, cars produced after '73 had a longer, lower front grille and introduced the iconic 'self-cleaning' rear lights.
This W114 200D seems to have had a quieter life, but it shows how solid and reassuring these understatedly styled cars are. It is in excellent condition with an attractive colour scheme and has good documentation, including a long-standing ASI certificate. It has been owned by its current enthusiast owner since 2004. It is a well-maintained and very economical W114 that could easily be used as an everyday car or well represented at exhibitions and rallies.
