The Appeal
In most markets including the UK, the ‘1275 GT’ was the ultimate Mini - but South Africa got one even more powerful - the lesser-known ‘1275 GTS’. Produced at Cape Town’s Blackheath plant, it was based on the Clubman shell and boasted an uprated engine with high-compression pistons, double valve springs and an increased compression ratio which afforded it a very respectable 74 bhp.
Here we have one of the rare survivors - a 1974 Leyland Mini 1275 GTS which has been restored to a very high standard both mechanically and cosmetically.
Mini collectors the world over will likely want to get their hands on this car as it’s seldom they reach the open market. If you’re reading this from the UK, we needn’t tell you what a fantastic car this would be to import - it’s even right-hand drive of course!
