The Appeal
The Jensen Interceptor, with American powerplants, styling by Carrozzeria Touring, and British assembly, is quite a layered story from a uniquely ambitious period in British car-building. That tri-national stance has made the resulting tourer one of the boldest projects any English car manufacturer embarked upon.
The MKIII Convertible is among the rarest of these already fairly scarce cars, though. Introduced in 1974 to capitalise on the American market, the Interceptor's roofless kin was intended to sap some of the thunder being set by Mercedes-Benz's R107 and the like. Sadly, Jensen wasn't long for this world, and only 267 were ever built in two years of production. They may lack some of the more distinctive styling cues of the hatchback, but they're undeniably fascinating.
This example, imported to Poland in 2017, has been treated to an interior restoration and plenty of mechanical work. Beautifully presented in a bright red livery, this is a solid, eminently drivable car that's rarely seen outside of its homeland. We expect it'll garner plenty of interest on auction.
