The Appeal
By the mid 1960s, the gloriously humble Citroën 2CV was beginning to appear a bit dated, especially when compared with the clever semi-monocoque Renault 4, so a replacement was drafted. One that, like the British Mini Clubman, would cease production before the car it was intended to replace.
The Dyane was designed for Citroën by the Panhard company as Citroen itself was preoccupied with redesigning the DS, which led to some interesting styling quirks. The key features, though, were a more integrated, less ‘vintage’ body style than the 2CV and a hatchback rear end.
Initially, the Dyane was powered by the same air-cooled 425cc engine as the 2CV, but with the debut of the more powerful 602cc engine in 1968 it evolved into the Dyane 6, with a top speed of over 70mph.
And to the untrained eye, that’s what this car appears to be. But it isn’t. Look closely and you’ll see that it’s longer, with bigger doors. A Dyane Limousine, if you like, created as the vision of a long-term and passionate 2CV collector and turned into a reality. And if that’s not different enough, it’s also even cheaper to run than a normal 2CV! The Dyane still of course runs on petrol (6 Gallon tank) but also thanks to an American IMCO gas-injection LPG installation, which adds even greater frugality to the mix.
PLEASE NOTE The vendor is happy to have the LPG system removed at his own expense if the new owner would prefer it.

The entire car is a labour of love, astonishingly practical and a complete talking point.

SUMMARY
If you want something completely different, then you’ve just found it. A 2CV derivative that never previously existed, but when viewed as a whole makes perfect sense, with increased legroom aft of the front seats and greater load capacity, complete with its own bespoke-engineered cargo carrier. You certainly won’t stumble across another.
It’s a characterful, well-engineered and offbeat entry into the fabulously diverse 2CV community, and with the LPG system it’s also arguably the cheapest-to-run and most fuel-efficient limousine that money can buy.
