The Appeal

Anyone who knows the name Triumph is well aware of the vast amount of love and recognition these wonderful looking cars are known for.
Often seen at car shows, classic car rally and the like, they are famous for their sporty looks and performance to go along with it.
This particular example has had a very ’No expense spared’ approach especially toward the mechanical side of things and has been used by the vendor on some long road trips without fuss, really emphasising the reliability of this particular car.
The current owner has owned the car for some 10 years and has not been stingy with maintenance and some modernisation to keep reliability afoot. Keeping it garaged and beautifully clean, this TR-6 looked absolutely fabulous in the flesh and has more than doubled in value in the past decade making it a good investment whether it was used regularly or not.

The History and Paperwork

  • New rear hub assemblies
  • New battery
  • Recent alternator (uprated)
  • Overdrive recondition
  • Major Overhaul in 2013/14
  • Chassis replacement in the mid 90’s
This car has a vast array of invoices and MOT certificates dating back decades. The current V5 is up to date.
The vendor has just had a new MOT issued despite it being MOT exempt. This has always been carried out regardless.
Ultimately almost nothing is missing in this cars history file and shows exceptional care and attention throughout its life.

The Interior

  • Leather Mazda Mx-5 seats
  • Original seats included
  • Uprated stereo & speakers
Mostly adorned in black carpet and leather/leatherette, this TR-6 is really in a lovely way. Not much in the way of wear except in the usual spots like the gear knob and even this is minimal. This interior does not at all feel its age except in its design.
The beautiful wooden steering wheel has brass inlays and is smooth to the touch and in superb condition. The instrument cluster is nice and clean along with the switchgear which shows use but not overly worn.
Everything appeared to be in good working order with all the plastics and trims fitting as they should and little to no wear on the carpets as these were protected with over-mats.
The dashboard, was of course wooden and looked original with nice light patina.

The Exterior

  • New paint
  • Very good hood
  • Stainless exhaust
  • Chromed deep-dish wheels
First thing you notice about this particular car is the quality of the finish. Recently painted locally to the vendor, this car looks exceptional and has been finished to a very high standard with a high gloss and even finish all over.
Chrome dished wheels look the part and with the overall look really well. These are in superb nick with a high mirror shine on the lip and a subtle silver satin centre.
The vendor did not know when the vinyl hood had been replaced, but this was in really good condition with non obvious damage or tears and the rear clear plastics were only a little faded.
Overall extremely well presented with very little in the way of marks or blemishes.

The Mechanics

  • Upgraded oil filter housing
  • Recent uprated alternator
  • Stainless exhaust system
  • K&N Cold air feed
The vendor was particularly keen on this car to have the mechanical side of things ‘just so’ and this really showed.
As the car was used for some fairly extensive yet occasional journeys, the owner was particular about reliability. This has meant such things as the overdrive and rear drivetrain have been overhauled and a new clutch slave cylinder have been fitted.
Along with that, an electronic ignition system keeps this triumph starting like a modern car and an electronic fan to keep things cool more effectively.
A look underneath shows a solid looking chassis that appears well treated and clean.
The owner told us the oil filter housing had been upgraded from the original canister type that was difficult to access, to a more modern, spin on type, sourced from a Ford Zetec unit allowing easier and more reliable oil changes.

Summary

All in all this TR-6 was very difficult to fault. Superb mechanics surrounded in glossy paint make this an absolute joy to look at and undoubtedly drive.
A few minor modifications to modernise the aesthetics and creature comforts will no doubt be appealing to most and the reliability of a well maintained classic will give peace of mind when popping away for a weekend or simply enjoying weekend blast with the wind in your hair.
