1973 Range Rover Suffix B

Highlights

• 3.5 litre V8 engine with four wheel drive
• High quality restored “suffix B” classic 2 door
• British Motor Industry certified historic status

The Background

The Range Rover Classic was one of the first SUV models to be introduced to the public, this time with comfort, elegance and style. The three door was introduced in 1969 and came in a variety of period colours, sumptuous interior with the usual Land Rover build quality in a vehicle that could drive through the streets of Knightsbridge and then in the next breath wade through rivers on an expedition.
Availability of the sought after two door were restricted from 1984 when the second
generation was launched. From that moment the moniker “Range Rover Classic” was added to the original model, this made it distinguishable from the new P38A successor.

The History

This Classic model has the much preferred and more powerful 3.5 litre V8 that was fitted in the Rover SD1 saloon car, up from the standard 160ps to 190ps, adding more torque and smoothness to the 1800kg off roader.
The current owner has had the vehicle for six years and has done a full nut and bolt restoration on the vehicle, he already had the Rover SD1 V8 engine and has kept a record of all work done on the vehicle, you will see from the photos that a record totals up to £27,000 of work that has gone in to the Range Rovers maintenance and build.

The current owner is a Land Rover collector and enthusiast and has spent many meticulous months making this example as perfect as possible.

The Paperwork

The car has a host of paperwork included, these show parts, labour and maintenance that the seller has spent in the last six years.
The car comes with a brand new cover, two sets of keys and other details about the cars build. Also included is the British Motor Industry certificate confirming the vehicles
historic status.

The Interior

The velour upholstery as you would expect from an extensive restoration is like new, the seating is firm yet supportive with no visible marks at all. All door cards are like new as are the floor carpets, switch gears and interior glass.

The Exterior

The car is finished in the period 1970’s Bahama Gold, a sought after colour that fits this three door Classic perfectly. The finish is superb and the cars bumpers, arches and all trims are as new, testament to the quality and care that the owner has put in to this sympathetic restoration.

Wheels are in good order for its age and tyres are Imperial tyres which have good tread throughout.

The Mechanics

As mentioned the donor engine is the more powerful Rover SD1 V8 engine from 1979 to 1980 with 9.35:1 CR, all mechanics are in perfect order with a recent service just done to the vehicle this year.
The engine runs smoothly and the four speed manual gearbox is smooth and precise in its operation and it has overdrive.

The Appeal

Whether you are after a usable classic for any occasion, an upmarket ride for those luxury hotel stays, or an off roader that will put many modern examples to shame this “Classic” is a real stand out due to its exceptional restoration.
The Range Rover advertising logo was “a car for all reasons”, now is the chance to own a piece of history that is ready to be used anywhere.
