- A real head-turner in gleaming Almandine Red over period beige velour
- A comprehensive service record and extensive paperwork file
The Background
The Mercedes Benz C107 SLC model (and its sibling the SL / R107 model) became Mercedes Benz’s longest running single series after the G series. This ensured the car’s status as a true 1970’s hero car and secured its place as one of the marques best loved and most recognisable offerings.
The SLC was very much designed as the quintessential GT car with a luxurious cabin for four adults and a large boot to accommodate their luggage. The 350 SLC, with its smooth 200bhp 3.5L V8, soon became the pick of the range, allowing for civilised and fast cruising of well over 130 mph on the derestricted autobahns of its homeland but not at the expense of reasonable economy.

The History
This example of the breed was a UK supplied car originally, starting its life in Hertfordshire. After a period in Jersey and a spell in dry storage, the car was bought and recommissioned by the current owner several years ago.
The current owner has found it an excellent car to own and enjoy finding it reliable and comfortable under all circumstances. This is certainly a by-product of its extremely light use and full-service history throughout its life.

The Paperwork
As you will see from our photographic package the car comes with a significant archive of paperwork. This represents a sample of the full archive. Some key documents include the current V5 and MOT, a significant number of invoices and bills.
There is also a comprehensive service booklet detailing very regular, even more than specified by Mercedes Benz, maintenance, and oil changes.
This book also verifies the incredibly low mileage of this car and shows that the car has only covered around 7,000 miles in the 33 years.

The Interior
The interior of a 1970’s SLC is an inviting place to spend time. It was a bye-word for luxurious comfort in its day and it has stood the test of time well. This example has the beige velour upholstery which adds a delightful, period ambiance to the interior.
The condition is great too. It is all very original in here with only a small tear in the driver’s seat noted (and pictured) as the only significant imperfection. Given this is velour, this would be an easy mend for a car upholstery specialist.
The biscuit coloured, wool loop carpets appear to be original and are in excellent condition throughout. The door cards, dash top and facings and headlining are all in excellent, original condition.

The Exterior
The bodywork and paintwork of the SLC appear to be in great original condition and presented in gleaming Almandine Red. No significant areas of concern have been noted with the paintwork appearing thick and lustrous and the panel gaps remaining tight and true.
Areas of chrome are bright and the light lenses and glass all appear to be undamaged and free from fogging or delamination. The original and period-correct 14-inch steel wheels are faced with the signature body-coloured and chrome hub caps centred with a large three-pointed star.
The tyres are in the specified 205/70 R14 configuration and exhibit good tread depth all round.

The Mechanics
The smooth 3.5L V8 used in the 350 SLC went on to prove a reliable and muscular engine. The combination of the relaxed V8 torquey power delivery and the smooth changing 3 speed automatic gearbox gave the SLC superlative long-distance cruising credentials.
Given the low mileage and exemplary service record of this car it comes as no surprise that the current owner reports that all mechanical aspects of this car are in excellent working order.

The Appeal
Exotic GT car looks paired with a roomy and luxurious cabin, surely makes the 1977 Mercedes Benz 350SLC the ultimate classic mile-muncher. With a V8 burbling away up front – and it sounds great - and the smooth automatic gearbox taking the strain for the driver, this is a classic car which is more than able to take extended road-trips in its stride.
This example has so much going for it too. The minuscule mileage, the extensive paperwork file, the delightful period velour interior and the striking red colourway. If you are in the market for a classic Mercedes GT car from the brand’s apogee, it is hard to imagine a better example being available today.
Be sure not to miss out on this 70’s gem.
