The Appeal
The prestigious Monte Carlo Rally has produced many automotive heroes over the years and Lancia’s win in 1972 has gone down in history as a particularly fine achievement. With Sandro Munari at the helm and Mario Mannici navigating, they steered their 1.6-litre Fulvia HF to victory and Lancia were quick to recognise their success with a special edition Fulvia, aptly named the Monte-Carlo.
Here we have a very original 1973 example which we’re delighted to share has been signed by the great Sandro Munari. It’s in great condition for its age and the vendor points out a great many original features as well as assuring us that the underside has never required any welding work. If you’re looking for a fine example of this desirable special edition, this looks like a wonderful car.

- Italian registration documents present
- Rare Azzurro Francia livery
- The five-figure odometer reads 17,287 kilometres although the history suggests the true figure to be 17,287

- Signed by Sandro Munari in 2016
- Some original factory chalk marks and stickers remain in place
The Interior
- Original black vinyl upholstery
- Retains a period correct stereo
- Three-spoke sports steering wheel as per original Monte-Carlo specification
- Signatures in the door shuts and driver’s sun visor
Despite the fact this Lancia is celebrating its fiftieth birthday, the original interior still looks fantastic and the vendor does not believe it to have been restored.
The black vinyl upholstery exhibits little in the way of wear, with no rips or sagging evident to the seats or door cards. The perforated headlining displays a few marks and some discolouration, but considering its age it remains in great condition. The floor matting too presents well with no notable defects in evidence. The dashboard looks great, with the veneer fascia still in good order. We understand the instruments to be in good order as well as the switchgear. We didn’t sot any later additions and even the radio is period correct. The inside of the boot presents well and the spare wheel retains its cover. It also houses the original Battaini jack and the factory tools.
Sandro Munari’s signature can be found on the driver’s sun visor and also in the driver’s door shut with a date underneath.
The Exterior
- Rare Azzurro Francia livery
- Blue paintwork with contrasting matte black bonnet, bootlid and front wing tops in the style of a period rally car
- Cromodora alloy wheels
- Cibie spot lamps
- Debumpered - as per original Monte-Carlo specifications
- Reportedly never welded underneath
Finished in the rare Azzurro Francia livery, this Fulvia looks every bit the rally car. The bodywork remains really straight and there’s no sign of corrosion. All the swage lines remain crisp, the doors fit nicely and all the panels align as they should. Underneath, all looks in great shape too and the vendor assures us that it has never required any welding work, which reportedly remains the case to this day. The paint displays few blemishes overall and certainly nothing especially noticeable. All the trim is in good order, as is the glass and all the light lenses including the additional Cibie spots. The car sits upon period correct Cromodora alloys which appear in good condition, as do the Pirelli tyres.
The Mechanics
- 1.3-litre V4 engine driving the front wheels
- Five-speed manual gearbox
- Presents well under the bonnet
- Said to be running and driving really well
The Fulvia’s rally success has to be at least partly put down to its front-wheel drive layout and rev-happy V4 engine.
The vendor informs us that this example has just been serviced with specific oils and filters. The brakes have been completely overhauled, from the master cylinder to the new repeater. It is said to run and drive impeccably and we’re not informed of any issues.
Summary
Signed by Munari and in lovely original condition, this Lancia Fulvia Monte-Carlo 1.3 S is a fabulous example that will surely be the next owner’s pride and joy. If you’re looking for a smart Fulvia with a great story behind it, this is certainly the one for you.
