1973 Kawasaki H1D 500

Vendor supplied images

Highlights

  • Although manufactured in 1974 this is a 1973 model H1D. It has the 1973 paintwork, H2 electronic ignition fixed footrests and non-rubber mounted motor, unlike the 1974 H1E. Much more desirable and rarer than the E
  • Highly original, even retaining some of its factory paintwork in the iconic H1D green livery
  • Motor stripped for inspection and reassembled in 2018 - with no road miles covered since

The Appeal

By the time Kawasaki released the H1 in 1969, it was clear the days of the four-stroke British twins were well and truly over. With a 500 cc three-cylinder two-stroke engine, it became one of the fastest bikes in the world and remained in production for six years.

We're delighted to present one such example, imported from Italy in 1983 with approximately 13,000 kilometres on the odometer, It has since recorded 1,123 miles on a replacement (MPH) unit since a new speedometer was installed.

Its engine was stripped for inspection/reassembled in 2018 and the vendor reports that it runs very well indeed, although hasn't hit the road since then.
The bike continues to boast some factory paintwork and a very original example, perfect for collectors seeking an authentic '74 MY H1D.

History and Paperwork

  • Manufactured in 1974
  • Imported from Italy and first UK-registered in October 1983
  • Imported from Italy with 13,000 kms on the odometer and 1,123 miles have since been covered once a NOS (MPH) speedometer was fitted
  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing
  • V5C present

The Condition

  • We understand that much of the paintwork is original to 1973
  • The tailpiece was resprayed by 'Dream Machine' in 1987, but that's reportedly all
  • Straight and seemingly corrosion-free frame and fuel tank
  • Very smart paintwork, sporting a light patina in places
  • No notable wear to the grips, pegs or controls
  • The seat upholstery presents really well
  • Smart wheels
  • All the brightwork looks in lovely order with no obvious corrosion or damage
  • Rims and spokes were replaced in 2018 with new tyres fitted

The Mechanics

  • 500 cc air-cooled in-line two-stroke triple
  • Five gears
  • The carburettors have been stripped and cleaned, but a sonic clean is recommended by the vendor
  • The engine was stripped for inspection and reassembled in 2018, covering 0 road miles since
  • The vendor informs us that the engine runs well, with no apparent faults
  • It is possible some adjustments may need to be made since this bike hasn't been road-ridden in some time
