The plus
The E-Type has always been a sports car that wanted to be a GT, and the 3 Series has finally unleashed that potential. Equipped with the longer, roomier 2+2 chassis, power steering and of course the firm's new V12, the latest iteration of this model is, for many, the best.
The 'UD' chassis prefix confirms that this OTS model, with manual gearbox and matching numbers, began life on the US market in 1973. It remained there until 2009, before returning to Europe through its current owner, who has kept it from 2010 until the present day.
It was restored 20 years ago, retaining the original colour scheme, and is now in good condition. Inside and out, the equipment is very well maintained. This is a particularly remarkable and driveable example of the ultimate GT car of the 70s.

Powertrain
- Jaguar 5.3-litre V12 engine developing 266 bhp
- Four Stromberg carburettors
- Matching numbers car verified by photographs and VIN records
- Four-speed manual gearbox sought
Like the venerable XK engine that preceded it, Jaguar's new V12 was designed to perform just as well on the Hunaudières straight at Le Mans as it did down the motorway to Cannes. In road use, this famous block mainly found its way under the bonnet of the British firm's new XJ saloon, but to test it before going into production, and to resolve quality problems, it was initially installed under the bonnet of the E-Type.
In this configuration, the planned fuel injection was replaced by a quartet of more reliable Stromberg carburettors. This was enough to deliver 266bhp to the wheels. This was not much of a change from previous 6-cylinder cars, but the new engine was not really intended to provide an extra boost of power, but rather to affect the way it was delivered.
The 3 Series is revered by enthusiasts for its engine, which is one of the greatest blocks of the twentieth century. A check of the VIN records against the photographs confirms that this car has matching numbers and appears to retain its factory specification.
