The Appeal

If there ever was a car that sells itself simply on its utter beauty, it would be the Jaguar E-Type. An absolute masterclass in automotive design and engineering, the E-Type is a vehicle synonymous with style performance and unadulterated class. An excellent culmination of looks and performance that still retains legend status some six decades on from first production.
Under the same ownership for over a decade, having been previously subject to an extensive restoration, and being accompanied by a comprehensive file of history and documentation, this later Series 3 E-Type is a wonderful example of the coveted nameplate and will undoubtedly make a welcome addition to any prestigious collection.

The History and Paperwork

  • Owned for the last 12 years by an avid Jaguar enthusiast
  • Prior to current ownership the car was subject to a highly extensive restoration at the hands of the previous owner. Photos of which are present in the car’s history file
  • Comprehensive collection of invoices for work undertaken at the request of both the current and previous owner
  • Jaguar E-Type Series 3 operating manual in leather bound wallet
  • Series 3 E-Type owners and workshop literature
  • Dry stored throughout current ownership
  • Tax and MOT exempt due to the historic status of the vehicle

The Interior

  • Good quality, highly original interior
  • Well presented example
  • Dashboard and trim all of a good standard
With the E-Type sporting such wonderful exterior styling, it is only natural that the body is paired with an equally beautiful interior space, which is precisely what one finds when opening the doors to inspect this example. Well presented elegant black upholstery is the order of the day and makes a wonderful pairing to the white exterior paintwork.
A wonderful cluster of switches, controls and gauges embellished with the finest interior trim, are immediately visible when inspecting the E-Type cabin, the deep black dash piece and centre console are of a wonderful standard and sit nicely alongside, with the dash notably lacking in cracking, fading or sun damage, a real testament to the quality of which this car has been preserved.
The two sculpted leather seats, also of an excellent standard, boast neat stitching and high quality upholstery; these are well paired with a set of colour matched door panels, adorned with lashings of fresh chrome trim and door furniture. Front and centre sits the absolutely marvellous three spoke, E-Type steering wheel, the leather rim of which is in great shape and distinctly lacking in wear.
At the rear we find a neat and simple boot area, with simple black carpeting. Stowed within the rear is the black fabric tonneau cover which can be placed over the roof when folded down, like the rest of the car, the cover exhibits good quality upholstery and presents smartly.

The Exterior

  • Simply exquisite exterior styling
  • Rarer white paint scheme
  • Fold down convertible top in good working order
It is well known among the classic car world that upon the launch of the E-Type, Enzo Ferrari was reported to have called the model, “the most beautiful car ever made”. It’s a statement that arguably still rings true some 60 years later, and this wonderful Series 3 E-Type certainly makes a great case for it.
A sleek white paint scheme adorns this particular E-Type, certainly a rarer colour to see on the model but one that undeniably looks impeccable and suits the sloping lines of the car down to a tee. As highlighted by the accompanying restoration photos, any areas of corrosion or imperfection on the body of the car were repaired to an incredibly high standard before being resprayed in its excellent white paint scheme. As such the bodywork now presents in excellent condition, with the paint of a brilliant quality throughout. The headlight bezels, glass and badging dotted around the vehicle, in addition to the long sweeping, front hinged bonnet; a piece to marvel in its own right, present in truly remarkable condition.
We find the exterior to have been perfectly complimented by a myriad of brilliant chrome trim, all of which presents very smartly, with much of it having been replaced and refinished during the car’s more recent history. There are some minor imperfections to the finish around the rear bumper chrome, however this doesn’t detract from the E-Type’s excellent looks and appears as though it could be rectified rather easily without the need for replacement if the new owner wishes to do so.
Being a convertible variant of the E-Type, we find the car installed with a black fabric convertible top, a neat contrast to the adjoining white paintwork. Whilst ideally this won’t be needed for those enjoying the car through the upcoming spring and summer months, the roof functions fully and with ease, and can be retracted within a matter of moments. It comes as no surprise to report that the material itself is in great shape.
At ground level we are presented with four absolutely excellent chrome wire wheels, with Jaguar stamped knock off centre caps.

The Mechanics

  • Excellent V12 engine
  • Fishtail chrome exhausts
  • In great overall mechanical order
The Series 3 E-Type can be identified from its older counterparts in a number of ways. Most notably at first glance, the differing front grille piece and wider track, however hiding under the bonnet, and denoted by the badging on the rear bootlid, is the most notable change, the updated and revised 5.3 litre V12 engine. The engine was originally penned for the XJ13 model which never came to fruition, however rather thankfully the engine had been developed and found a welcome home in this third iteration of the E-Type.
Having been subject to an extensive restoration, followed by continual, rigorous maintenance throughout its lifetime, this particular E-Type can be seen to be in excellent mechanical order. The engine and engine bay itself both present in extremely clean fashion, with the glorious 12 cylinder motor firing to life comfortably and with ease. A truly marvellous tone emitting from the rear fishtail quad exhaust pipe.
On the road the E-Type is reported to provide a wonderful driving experience. A wonderful 12 cylinder soundtrack paired with a smooth automatic transmission, makes for a car that lends itself excellently to relaxed summer driving or longer distance cruises.
