The Appeal
Styled by legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro when he was only 19 years old and billed as his definition of a young man’s car, the original Alfa Romeo GT Junior became one of the most desirable coupés of the late Sixties and early Seventies, evolving into the 1750 and 2000 GTV models from 1971 onward, with flatter frontal styling and larger, more powerful evolutions of the legendary Alfa Twin Cam engine. Giugiaro was working for Bertone at the time, so the model has the rare pedigree of two of the most famous names in Italian car styling being involved.
The Alfa Romeo 105/115 models were hugely desirable sports coupés when new and are even more so today, with collectors actively seeking out the very best – and whoever plumps for this one is buying just that, in top-spec trim and with the most powerful of Alfa Romeo’s lusty twin cam engines.
Imported from dry state USA, the car has had a restoration by sports car manufacturer Tiger Racing and is finished to a breathtakingly high standard.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- UK V5C – all NOVA documents and import duties settled
- Imported from dry state USA in 2022
- Tax, MOT and ULEZ exempt
- Comprehensively restored to an exceptional standard
- Photographic record of work carried out
- No welding carried out during restoration
THE INTERIOR
- Retrimmed beige upholstery
- Wooden dash with stainless steel highlights
- Three-spoke wood-rimmed wheel
- New carpets
The GTV is one of those cars that’s as stylish on the inside as it is on the outside – and with the beige upholstery and wood trim inside this example, it’s an absolute delight in terms of styling.
The leatherette seats were retrimmed at some point in the USA and have been cleaned up and preserved while the cabin has new carpets throughout, along with a delightful wood-rimmed steering wheel. The dash is in good order, too, with a period Blaupunkt radio-cassette player mounted centrally. There are a few very small cracks showing on the very top. A new heater and motor have recently been installed in the UK.
Open the boot using the lever inside the nearside door shut and you’ll find a full-sized spare wheel (non-original)and all the original tools, and another brand-new carpet.
THE EXTERIOR
- Immaculate restored condition
- Painted in professional booth in Alfa Red
- Brand new bumpers
- Powder-coated factory-spec steel wheels
There’s a lot to love about the bodywork of this Alfa on top of its inarguably sensational styling.
It’s presented in stunning order, with gleaming bright red paint having been repainted by sports car manufacturers Tiger Racing in a factory-specification spray booth. The finish is incredible – this is an absolutely beautiful car, make no mistake at all.
But arguably more impressive is that when Tiger Racing stripped off the old burgundy paint, they found a shell that was original, solid and appeared to never have welded – neither the floors nor sills appear to have ever seen a welding torch - if they have, it's a perfect job.
It sits on a stunning set of coated factory-spec steel wheels with fresh Uniroyal rubber, while the rear bumpers has been replaced with a brand new item purchased from Classic Alfa.
THE MECHANICS
- 2.0-litre Twin Cam
- Five-speed manual
- Drives superbly
- Excellent under-bonnet presentation
Under the bonnet you’ll find the 2.0-litre version of Alfa Romeo’s legendary twin cam engine – a lively unit with a wonderful soundtrack and a rev-hungry nature. It’s a terrific engine with a well-earned reputation for being an all-time classic, presented here in its most powerful form with 130bhp, fed to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The engine has just had an all-new fuel injection belt fitted in the UK.
The brakes, steering and suspension are said to work without fault and it holds a steady temperature and an even idle. It’s mechanically standard other than having been lowered 40mm thanks to a set of easily removed lowering springs from Classic Alfa.
SUMMARY
Make no mistake – this is a truly gorgeous car, presented in fabulous restored condition and in arguably the very best colour scheme. A fine example of one of Alfa Romeo’s all-time greats, presented in show condition after a thorough and detailed program of restoration by a team of qualified motorsport engineers. It’s as wonderful to drive as it is to look at.
