The Background
The say every petrol head should own at least one Alfa in their lifetime. The passion and soul that’s instilled into an Alfa is what the petrol head (over your average driving public) will feel and admire.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GT1600 Junior is one of those vehicles that when launched further solidified Alfas name in the history books as a brand that has style and passion.
The GT1600 Junior doesn’t have a massive engine, merely a 1600cc as the name denotes, but it is a twin cam revvy engine and not at all bad in a lightweight coupé shell weighing circa 1000KGs. Furthermore, despite its small capacity in CCs it was capable of a 0-60 time of 9.5 seconds and over 113 Mph top speed which at the time was more than pleasing. Somewhat more impressive though are the looks, it really is a pretty vehicle and any petrol head worth their salt can appreciate its inevitable style and therefore even today it is still sought after, amongst the drab designs of today's cars maybe even more so.
The History
The car was imported from South Africa - Johannesburg Gauteng Region in January 2020 and has been registered by its current owner with the DVLA so all fees are paid and the car is UK Legal. Due to its origin it’s a RHD vehicle with the added bonus that the car has spent nearly all of its life to date in Johannesburg where it lived some 1700M above sea level meaning it has lived in a dry climate and the condition reflects that.
The car due to age is of course Tax and MOT Exempt.
The Paperwork
The car will come with its V5 and all of the necessary import and UK Registration documentation including a manual.
The Interior
The interior is in lovely condition for a 48 year old vehicle with the black leatherette seats in great condition front and back.
The wood accents are in decent condition too and the steering wheel is just lovely.
There is some cracking/hazing on the top of the dash from the South African Sun.
The Exterior
Having recently been completely resprayed, as one would expect the exterior is in very good condition throughout. The chrome work is pitted in places like on the door handles but still looks the part. The wheels and tyres are in decent condition with minimal curbing.
The Mechanics
Mechanically the car starts stops and drives as it should and there are no untoward knocks bangs or noises which matches with the very conservative mileage. The engine is throaty and revvy just as an Alfa twin cam should be. The car is described as a project and would benefit from some tidying but is perfectly useable as is.
The Appeal
I've been lucky enough to take photos and write about a number of these Alfa GT1600 Juniors now and they are just one of the prettiest cars from that era of Alfas production.
This example is no ugly duckling by a long stretch but there is room for some improvement hence the listing stating that this is seen as at least a partial project but a fully working one at that.
Petrol heads looking to get into an affordable classic project Alfa and possibly one of the prettiest models ever made, look no further. At the prices fully restored examples are changing hands now this could be an ideal entry into the wonderful world of classic Alfa ownership.
