1973 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV

Highlights

  • Seller verifies 30,213 miles from new
  • Highly original and well kept GTV
  • Desirable late model GTV 132bhp twin cam
  • Only three registered keepers
  • Serviced by Alfa Romeo specialist September 2024

The Appeal

Of the many cars that have cemented Alfa Romeo’s reputation, the 2000 GTV has to be one of the most significant. The last and most powerful coupe evolution of the wide-ranging 105-Series model range, this model encapsulates the firm’s ability to build beautiful, delicate and nimble sports cars quite unlike any other car maker.
No wonder, then, that good examples like this one remain in high demand. Its cream paintwork is a welcome change from the more usual reds. Inside and out it is a very well kept car. The vendor tells us that it has never been restored. It is also one of lowest, if not the lowest, mileage RHD GTV in existence.  He also reports that the low displayed 48,624 kms (30,213 miles) is genuine and it has had just three registered keepers.
Few GTVs reach the market as original and well presented as this one. It is now UK registered and was recently treated to a full service by an Alfa Romeo specialist in September. The quality Michelin tyres are also new. A /museum quality' gem of a GTV and we envy the buyer.

The Condition

  • Very original car in off-white cream with good paintwork and 'time warp' condition
  • We are told that the paintwork is original
  • The paintwork presents well with minor imperfections and colour variations to note
  • Vendor advises that there are slight marks to the car’s corners around the chromework
  • Bodywork presents very well with straight panels and flush, consistent panel fit
  • Exterior chromework in very good order with bright bumpers and trim
  • Sits on refurbished steel wheels in very good condition with chrome accents
  • Underside reported to be in very good order with no issues advised
  • The vendor informs us that the bodywork looks in very good order with little to no rust
  • Inner wings and engine bay present very well
  • Lots of original and well kept features including vinyl factory boot trim
  • Black leather four seat interior with very well kept fixtures and fittings
  • Cabin veneers, dials and switchgear appear original and well preserved
  • Features details such as period radio and wood-rimmed wheel
  • Original and unrestored dashboard and seats
  • Black carpets with fitted rubber protective mats
What a gem this car is. 51 years on from the day it left the factory it appears barely altered, offering a time-warp, museum-quality level of condition that one rarely sees in cars of this age. Particularly, perhaps, Alfa Romeos.

The condition and originality are key to this car's charm. The car wears a very gentle patina of character and retains its host of factory-correct interior features including black leather trim and a light drizzle of veneer.

It would be difficult to find another car with the condition and mileage of this one. It is a testament to its handful of keepers and will reward the buyer who perhaps has show competition success in mind.

The Mechanics

  • 1,962 ‘Bialbero’ twin cam 132bhp 4cyl engine
  • Manual gearbox
  • Very tidy engine bay with polished cam covers
  • Described as mechanically sound and starts on the first turn by seller
  • Drives well, as remarked by the MOT mechanic according to seller
  • No reported running or driving issues
  • Recently serviced by marque specialist in September 2024
Alfa Romeo's Bialbero twin cam is one of classic motoring's utter highlights. A characterful, sonorous unit that thrives on revs, it is a perfect match for the light, well balanced GTV chassis.

This car has covered less than 1,000 miles a year since it was first registered in 1973. That makes it amongst the lowest mileage of any surviving RHD GTVs. Thanks to its caring keepers it has been maintained superbly despite the sparing use.  It is reported to start easily, idle smoothly and drive superbly. Don't just take our word or the vendor's for that - his mechanical said the same when the car was recently subject to testing.

The car arrives on the market fresh from a recent service by a marque specialist. It is ready to drive and admire.
The vendor tells us:
“Powered by the 2.0L engine, it offers the best driving experience of the 105 series. Recently serviced and fitted with new tyres, everything about this car points to it being one of the finest, most original Bertone GTVs for sale—anywhere! The level of originality is remarkable, with the only exception being the repaint. Our example is the most original, unmolested, and never-restored car I’ve seen on the market in the UK. This is a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding, collector-status vehicle.”
