The Appeal
Enjoying a production run of over 14 years, the Alfa Romeo 105/115 models were hugely desirable sports coupés when new and are even more so today, with collectors actively seeking out the very best.
Styled by legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro when he was only 19 years old as the definition of a young man’s car, the original Alfa Romeo GT Junior became one of the most desirable cars of the late Sixties and early Seventies, evolving into the 1750 and 2000 GTV models from 1971 onward, with flatter frontal styling and larger, more powerful evolutions of the legendary Alfa Twin Cam engine.
This one – a Series II GTV model - is freshly imported from South Africa, where it was restored by its previous owner. It’s the range-topping 2000 GTV, featuring desirable Momo Vega alloy wheels and a retrimmed leather interior. It’s a gorgeous car, presented in utterly lovely condition.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Tax, MOT and ULEZ exempt
- Bare metal respray and comprehensive restoration carried out in Johannesburg
- Comprehensive photo record of the rebuild
- We're told that more than £8,000 of Classic Alfa spares were used
- The seller has completed all of the import and duty paperwork relative to the car so there are no additional taxes to pay, while the DVLA NOVA notification and original South African registration document are included
- Vendor is also happy to help the buyer register the car in the UK if that’s where it remains after it is sold - the process is very simple and costs less than £100 to complete
- Just 39,217Km on the clock
THE INTERIOR
- Retrimmed black leather
- Wooden dash with stainless steel highlights
- Three-spoke Momo Prototipo sports steering wheel
- Excellent carpets and headlining
The Alfa’s black leather seats have been retrimmed during its restoration and are in excellent condition, while the rest of the cabin is in fine order. A stylish, period correct Momo Prototipo steering wheel has been fitted, along with the correct boss unit. It suits the car perfectly and feels superb in the hands.
We're informed by the vendor that the correct door cards were sourced from Italy, while genuine OEM carpeting (including to the boot space) and headlining was refitted as part of the restoration. It all presents in exceptional condition, with very gentle patina and no real signs of use or wear.

THE EXTERIOR
- "Bare metal" respray
- Rare and desirable Momo Vega alloys
- Excellent chrome and trim, much of it renewed with genuine parts
- Repainted in correct Rosso 501 paint
There’s a lot to love about the bodywork of this Alfa, on top of its inarguably sensational styling. Overall it’s presented in great order, with gleaming bright red paint having been restored in South Africa in the care of its previous owner. We're told that it was treated to a "bare metal" respray, with the owner being careful to use the correct Rosso 501 paint.
It sits on a stunning set of period Momo Vega alloy wheels with fresh Dunlop rubber – their black and silver finish set off fantastically well against the red paint. We note too that the chrome and brightwork are in great order, with the vendor telling us that many new trim pieces have been fitted. This includes the expensive new chrome badges, new genuine Carello lights with upgraded bulbs from Classic Alfa as well as new door handles. The results speak for themselves.
The South African climate has been kind to the underside too, which appears to be in extremely sound order with no notable damage or corrosion to be seen.

THE MECHANICS
- 2.0-litre Twin Cam
- Five-speed manual transmission
- Drives superbly
- Excellent under-bonnet presentation
Under the bonnet you’ll find the 2.0-litre version of Alfa Romeo’s legendary twin cam engine – a lively unit with a wonderful soundtrack and a rev-hungry nature. It’s a terrific engine with a well-earned reputation for being an all-time classic, presented here in its most powerful form with 130bhp, fed to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
During the restoration, much work was carried out to the car's mechanicals. This included a full suspension refurbishment, with new tie rods, track rod ends and dampers fitted. The gearbox was also overhauled, with a new second gear synchro installed. Other work carried out includes the installation of a new clutch, new brake discs and pads and a new electronic ignition system.
The vendor tells us that the engine was in perfect working order, so only a rebuild of the carburettors was required. Helping them to breathe easily, a new Powerflow exhaust system was fitted in South Africa too.

We were able to conduct a short test drive of the car and can confirm that it is a wonderful thing to drive, with a smooth-shifting five-speed transmission and eager performance. The brakes, steering and suspension all seem to work without fault and it holds a steady temperature and an even idle.
SUMMARY
Make no mistake – this is a truly gorgeous car, presented in fabulous order and in a highly desirable colour scheme. A fine example of one of Alfa Romeo’s all-time greats, this presents a unique opportunity to purchase a rare and collectible machine in excellent condition at a sensible price.
