The Background
Introduced in 1972 the 1800ES was Volvo Cars last variant of its four seat grand tourer the P1800. The shooting brake design allowed for the rear seat backrests to be folded down to allow a long flat loading area. An all glass rear boot lid was also featured which became a familiar design used by Volvo in its later years.
The car is powered by a 1972 B20E, fuel injected, petrol engine sending 130 hp to the rear wheels. The 1800 was in production from 1961 and came to a stop in 1973, almost 47,500 vehicles were built in that period and of that only 8,078 shooting brake versions were made.

The History
First registered December 1972 this car's life has predominantly been spent in the Midlands area, with Bradford and Sheffield addresses on record. It has also spent a few years in the Yorkshire region before going back to the midlands and then eventually making its way to its current residence in Tranquil Devon. It’s been garaged and cared for since being acquired in 2021 but due to spending half the year abroad, the owner has decided to sell.
The Paperwork
A substantial amount of paperwork is included in several folders. MOT certificates dating back to the early 80’s, documentation of previous owners in the form of old V5’s and pages and pages of invoices for parts and work carried out in 2011 - 2015 when the vehicle was restored. In addition, invoices for service and maintenance work in its early years are also present alongside an original manufacture manual and workshop guide.
The Exterior
Finished in an outstandingly beautiful turquoise metallic blue, this car is a real joy to look upon. The condition is fabulous with very little sign of age or wear. All chrome bumpers and trims are in good order, it’s a grand car, in grand condition that was wonderfully designed, especially that rear end.
A complete glass boot lid, with two further long sweeping glass panels, which compliment the car's extended bottom nicely. Minilite alloys are currently fitted which give the car a lovely sporty stance, a set of the original alloys will come with the car if you would prefer the original style.

The Interior
More delightful design can be seen throughout the interior of this 1800ES, it’s stunning from the floor to the roof, with leather sports style seats, beige roof and carpet that matches the exterior paint. The brown/cognac seats are unique to the shooting brake model and are just superb, sporty design but comfortable.
The rear seats look unused and fold down easily to allow an extension of the boot floor to fold out and over, very practical but very stylish . The wooden dash is another pleasant addition to the car, black instrument dials and switches with white writing and the smallest of chrome are a smart design. Everything is beautifully laid out, a very pleasing and charming interior.

The Mechanics
On several requests the car was fired up and manoeuvred with no issue or fuss, the fuel injected B20E engine ticked over with ease and the brakes and steering performed without drama. The latest work to be carried out was a service and full tune up to ensure the car was functioning at its best.
The Appeal
Beautiful inside and out, this car is a perfect combination of Italian styling and Swedish engineering. From every angle, the car radiates charm, its sparkling turquoise paint, gleaming bumpers and wonderful interior make this specific 1800 a true distinguished example of an already remarkable car.
