1972 Triumph Stag V8

HIGHLIGHTS

  • 3.0 litre V8 with 3 speed automatic gearbox
  • T-Bar Convertible

THE APPEAL

The Triumph Stag has long been the go to V8 cruiser for classic car enthusiasts. The British 2+2 luxury sports car was launched in 1970 and was styled by Giovanni Michelotti. The Italian styling, which was utilised across the Triumph model range at the time, was a shrewd move. The Stag’s V8 engine was the icing on the cake however, which makes it a desirable and popular classic today. The 1972 Triumph Stag on sale with Car and Classic is a Mk1 example finished in classic Pimento red and has benefited from mechanical maintenance in the current owners custodianship.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • MOT until 8th November 2022
  • 5 Owners from new
This Triumph Stag was first registered in March 1972 and was acquired by the current owner in 2001. It has had 5 owners from new.
Included in the history file are numerous invoices which document ongoing maintenance over the years. This includes a number of invoices for works carried out by Triumph specialists Faversham Classics Ltd in Kent.
Also included in the history file are some old MOT certificates, with the earliest dating back to 1998.
The seller states that the previous owner kept the car for 14 years and it was originally registered on a private plate. The Stag is now back on its original registration.

THE INTERIOR

  • Burr Elm Wood Dashboard
  • Wood Rim Steering Wheel
  • Black Vinyl Trim
  • Electric Windows
The Stag has been trimmed with black vinyl seats and black carpet. The interior presents well in the photos with the burr elm wood dashboard set off nicely by the classic wood rim steering wheel.
The seller describes the carpets as being in excellent condition. They note there is a small tear in the fabric of the hardtop and there is a split in the vinyl trim where the hard top meets the body. They also note that the headliner is a little grubby.
The seller adds that JVC CD headunit is installed and that the radio is not connected.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Triumph Pimento Red
  • Black Convertible Hood
  • Red Hard Top
The Stags red paint presents nice and bright in the photos and is set off nicely by the classic Stag black insert alloy wheels, which appear to be in nice shape.
The seller states that the exterior is mostly good with some blemishes noticeable on closer inspection. There are some  minor small rust bubbles approximately 10mm x 50mm in size, with minor cracking to paint about the size of a 50p piece in 3 areas.
