THE APPEAL
Based on the platform of the Triumph 2000 and sharing its front panels, the strikingly handsome Stag made its debut in 1970, six years after Michelotti first imagined it as concept car at the 1964 Turin Motor Show.
Although it was neither quick nor especially agile, it was well-received, for here was a car that was somewhere between sports car and GT, with immense character and masses of boulevard cruiser appeal. It was one of the best-looking cars in the world back in 1970, and in it still is today.
This example is a 1972 car with the original Triumph alloy V6, restored several years ago by a previous owner and treated to a full engine rebuild by the current owner three years ago, carried out by a well-respected Stag specialist.
Finished in rare Mallard Blue (it’s almost green), the car is a lovely example of an early Stag, with a couple of minor issues for the next owner to sort out, but still a gorgeous, head-turning car that is ready to use for shows and events.
The vendor has owned the car for nine years and has thoroughly enjoyed it, but feels he is getting too old to maintain it properly and would rather the car went to a new home where it can be cherished and enjoyed.
