The Appeal
With styling by Giovanni Michelotti and a V8 engine under the bonnet, the Triumph Stag had everything going for it. Sadly, an undeserved reputation for engine trouble put pay to sales reaching their full potential. And that was a real shame, as the Stag was perhaps the greatest of Britain's roadsters on the market at the time.
This 1972 example has been upgraded with a 3.9-litre Rover V8, four-barrel Edelbrock carburettor and an Offenhauser manifold. It also boasts a Rover automatic gearbox, BMW 3. 46:1 differential conversion, Minilite wheels, a 14" Kenlowe fan and full leather interior in black, with a matching black carpet set.
A well-sorted car indeed, and the vendor has voluntarily submitted it for MOT testing during each year of their ownership, as well as carrying out annual servicing. If you're looking for a usable classic, love the rumble of a V8 and the wind in your hair, this is the car for you.

"During my ownership I have:
"Replaced the clock with an oil pressure gauge (I still have the clock); replaced the sender unit, water pump and front shocks. I have also renewed the soft top (the old one
was looking a bit tired) and refurbed the boot lid. I have also added a Bluetooth radio and CD player.
Mechanically, the car is exceptional. The engine starts from cold, does not overheat and has a distinctive sound. Underneath I have had the engine and gearbox checked and it is all dry. The car has been garage stored by myself and the previous owner. All tyres are in good condition.
I have driven the car on several long journeys, 50-100 miles and it has never let me down or overheated, even on a hot day. The car has been regularly serviced by two Stag specialists mechanics, both of whom have commented on the quality and smoothness of the engine"
