The Appeal
Coined by the Emory family in the USA, a dynasty of Porsche 356 customisers, the term 'Outlaw' has come to signify a Porsche that's anything but ordinary. At first, these cars weren't accepted by the rivet-counting community for whom originality was the be-all and end-all. But today, our more inclusive car culture has embraced these builds and those inspired by the original custom 356s, such as those by Emory Motorsports.
Since there is also a burgeoning appreciation for fibreglass-bodied Porsche 356 replicas, it seems inevitable that there should now be a 356 Outlaw replica. This car shows that such a thing is eminently possible—not to mention exceedingly cool.
A heartfelt homage to the 1958 356A Emory Outlaw Special, this replica is the work of many years. The vendor assures us that it doesn't just look like an Emory Outlaw with its louvred side panels and GT mirrors, it drives like one, too, thanks to a hot-rodded flat-four engine bored out to an impressive 2.3-litres.
A recent service at a professional Porsche workshop ensures that it is in good health and ready for its next adventure. With its registration as a 1972 Volkswagen Type 1 (Beetle), this Outlaw is tax and technical inspection exempt. The car is inspected and approved for road use in Denmark. The car is registered as a classic car and therefore only needs to be inspected every 8 years.
This car is ready to go, and we're deeply envious of its next lucky owner.
The vendor comments:
"It’s fun, lightweight, and agile, delivering a sensory experience as the iconic 356 Outlaw. This isn’t a traditional replica but rather a way to bring what’s typically out of reach within your grasp!

The best part? You could own this car much sooner than expected, a rare opportunity given that the waiting list for a 356A Outlaw Special like this often spans several years. Even then, in terms of authenticity, few could match the essence captured by this machine.
The car was serviced at a professional Porsche workshop in November ’24."
The History and Paperwork
- Registered as a 1972 Volkswagen Type 1
- Acquired by the current owner in 2021 who subsequently finished the project
- Two registered keepers
- Clean European/Danish title and documentation
- 2022 technical inspection done in Denmark, valid for eight years
The vendor writes:
"Acquired by its current owner about four years ago (in 2021), this project was taken over from the previous owner, who unfortunately ran out of funds before completing the project. Unique details and countless custom options—inside and out, have been added afterwards. This 356A Outlaw is not an original but a beautifully crafted replica and a heartfelt homage to the popular and well-known ‘Emory Outlaw’ (a true source of inspiration)."

"Importing this car from Denmark/Europe should be straightforward since it’s over 35 years old. It’s registered as a 1972 VW Type 1. I have all the papers: inspection approval, registration papers, etc. The buyer will need to handle the standard import duty that applies to your country. I'm happy to assist with any part of the process where I can."

Over the years, countless hours have been invested in perfecting this 356A Outlaw Special. Every element, from its unique features and small details inside and outside, has been refined to achieve the right balance of authenticity and boldness. The car’s transformation reflects a labour of love, with attention to detail while adding some more edge to the design.
Finished in a classic grey over cognac Alcantara, this 356 cannot fail to turn heads wherever it goes. It boasts 15” black coated wheels, handmade aluminium racing seats upholstered in Alcantara, and a wood-rimmed Moto Lita steering wheel.
We're informed that this car's fibreglass body is made according to period-correct moulds but with notably thicker fibreglass than most replicas. There have also been subtle adjustments to make the body slightly wider, offering a more commanding "bossy" aesthetic but still true to the original and iconic 356 design. Standout details include louvred side panels and fender-mounted GT mirrors, adding a unique edge to its character.
