What a stunner! Fully restored by Car SOS, this Peugeot has undergone a complete restoration, showcased in Series 7, Episode 2. The body has received many new panels, which are genuine and were collected over several years by the vendor when he purchased the car in 1980.
With approximately 4,000 miles covered since completion, the car presents exceptionally well, as you would expect. There are a couple of minor scratches that could be easily touched up. Starting at the front, the chrome work has a bright finish with no tarnishing. All four headlights are in excellent condition, and a set of Cibie fog lights, which complement the headlight design, have been fitted.
Moving to the sides, the doors align well; however, the passenger door sits slightly proud on the lower edge, noticeable only when viewed from behind. Car SOS did not replace this door as it had already been reskinned by another company several years earlier. The fabric roof is in excellent condition, with no discolouration or creasing of the plastic windows.
At the rear, like the front, the chrome is in excellent condition, and the rear lights are free from damage. The original Chromodora alloy wheels have been fully refurbished and are in excellent condition. They are fitted with Michelin tyres that have plenty of tread remaining.
Inside, the car has been treated to a partial vinyl retrim to match the original. The seats have been fully recovered and are in good condition, with only a slight amount of stretching to the vinyl, but nothing excessive. Both door cards are in good order with no scuffs or damage.
The dashboard was converted from left- to right-hand drive in 1981, and there is a small split on the top of the dash. The instruments are in excellent condition and work as they should, with the odometer showing a reading of 30,686 kilometres. The switchgear is in good condition, showing a slight patina on some lettering. Recently, two new electric window motors have also been fitted. The vendor mentioned that the radio is not connected however the vendor will be providing spare parts to enable refurbishment of cabin heater.
The carpets are in excellent condition throughout the cabin and the boot. The jack is present along with the spare wheel, which is mounted to the underside.

The Mechanics

  • 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine
  • Kugelfisher fuel injection
  • 106bhp at 5,200rpm
  • Refurbished four-speed gearbox
  • New clutch
  • Disc brakes all round
  • Independent rear suspension
  • Superb underside

The 2.0-litre engine has been fully rebuilt using wet cylinder liners, and the Kugelfisher fuel injection system has been overhauled to ensure the car runs perfectly, with no issues reported.
The four-speed gearbox and propshaft were refurbished in 2022 by Peugeot specialist John Fox. The car shifts smoothly, and the Peugeot pulls well through the gears.
When it comes to stopping, the disc brakes on all four corners ensure excellent braking performance, and with all components replaced during the restoration, everything is in good working order with no issues mentioned.
The car initially came off the road due to deteriorating trailing arms, a common issue for the 504. These have been replaced with new genuine parts, and the ride is smooth thanks to new shock absorbers.
Both the engine bay and underside of the car are exceptionally clean from front to rear.
