Highlights
- Family restored at home
- Nicely appointed with a good attention to detail
- Lots of new parts have been added during the build
The Appeal
Mention the words “British Classic” and you can be sure that the ubiquitous little MGB will pop into your mind. It is after all one of the most popular classics to own and there’s a huge network of outlets supplying parts and advice for the first-time MG owner. You are never alone when you own an MG. This particular little B has been lovingly restored by a Grandfather and Grandson team that has done a rather nice job.
The History and Paperwork
- A current V5c accompanies the car
- Very little paperwork for the restoration labour costs as this was a homegrown project
- The owner does possess a considerable amount of digital invoices displaying the considerable amount spent on new and refurbished parts
- More than 12 months spent on the restoration
- A pictorial history of the work undertaken is also available
The Interior
- The seats are freshly covered in a tasteful velour and vinyl
- The carpets appear new and are in good order
- The dashboard has a glossy finish rather than the traditional ‘crinkle’ finish
- An attractive Mountney 3-spoke steering wheel has been fitted
- All standard instruments are in place and appear to function as they should
- A period-correct cassette player and radio has been fitted and doesn’t look out of place
- The boot is carpeted and houses a spare wheel and carpeted cover
The Exterior
- The car is finished in bright red that has a good depth of shine but there is some orange peel here and there
- The folding hood is in good condition and appears to be free of tears and discolouration
- All the chrome is delightfully bright and clear and some is undoubtedly new
- The wire wheels are in excellent condition and are resplendent with their knock-off spinners
- The underside has not been examined but, the photographs taken at ground level appear to show some welded repairs where required and a copious amount of underseal has been applied
The Mechanics
- The engine and engine bay are clean and tidy without any obvious evidence of fluid leakage
- The standard 1.8 B series engine has an alloy rocker cover and is fitted with a pair of SU carbs
- Transmission, brakes and steering are also as the factory intended
