The Appeal
The BGT is tailor made for improvement. The factory cars are great but the potential was always far greater, something that an army of specialists offers to enthusiastic buyers.
This rather lovely ‘72 car has benefitted from such attention. It was restored in 1998 and refinished in the very smart dark blue metallic that you see today, accented by a set of smart Minilite-style alloys. Alongside the bodywork refurbishment and respray the car has an upgraded interior with neat features like leather seats and wood veneers - the perfect addition to any aspiring GT car.
Beneath the bonnet the there is an Oselli-titivated engine that adds useful extra power and makes touring considerably more relaxing.
The car is for sale on behalf of the vendor’s relative and has clearly been cherished since the previous keeper acquired it 20 years ago. It has been used regularly and benefitted from extensive ongoing maintenance including bodywork repairs, carburettor tune and regular servicing. Of use to buyers are the regular annual MOTs which suggest a car in fine fettle. The car will be sold with a fresh 12 months MOT.
With its smart exterior, upgraded interior and big Webasto-style roof, this pretty car looks tailor-made for some entertaining spring drives.
The vendor writes:
“I have been honoured to sell my late brother in law's treasured MGB GT. It was his pride and joy for more than twenty years and is a very special example of the marque. If I had any space in my garage I would buy it myself. It really is a special car. It has been loved and cherished with no expense spared to keep it in amazing condition cosmetically and mechanically. I have bills for multiple works It has led a more comfortable and pampered life than many of us, always stored in a heated garage, rarely (if ever) allowed out in the wet and it has never seen snow in more than twenty years of his ownership.
“The car is in excellent cosmetic condition inside and out - the pictures tell it all. The Oselli engine conversion which has made it a very lively performer and there is a lovely retrimmed interior. I have a box of paperwork listing pretty well everything it has had done to it in this time.
