The Appeal

Hardly in need of an introduction, the MGB is easily one of the most iconic sports cars ever produced. This popular roadster has amassed a huge following the world over, leaving enthusiasts on the search for well-cared-for examples of this classic.

This particular example benefits from a previous light restoration, along with a near fully traceable history, a rebuilt engine, and an excellent maintenance record. The car drives beautifully, now presenting buyers with the perfect vehicle to enjoy the sunny weather with.

The History and Paperwork

  • Fantastic history
  • Well maintained
  • Thousands spent
  • Engine rebuild in 2017
  • V5C document present
A true testament to how well this MGB has been cared for is the sheer amount of paperwork that the vehicle comes with, despite having 12 former UK owners. Typically, paperwork tends to get lost over the years, but this classy roadster comes with a near-fully traceable history, even down to the original advert in the newspaper.
Over the years, the vehicle has been well maintained, with folders of invoices documenting previous parts, labour and repairs. A key example to note would be the considerable cost spent with renowned specialist Broad Arrow Classics, which consisted of a light mechanical overhaul, an engine rebuild, bodywork and more. The included invoices also detail the expected consumables, regular servicing, and parts where required.
Also included within the vehicle’s paperwork are previous MOT certificates, an owner’s handbook, and the V5C document ready to sign over to the new owner.

The Interior

  • Black leather interior
  • 3-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel
  • Excellent condition
Having likely been retrimmed, this MGB sports a sleek black leather interior, complete with various touches such as the wooden gearknob, and the ever-iconic 3-spoke Moto-Lita wheel. The wheel itself could perhaps benefit from a dash of TLC and perhaps some new varnish to return to its full glory, but otherwise, the cabin shows minimal wear.
Both seats have seemingly seldom been used, with the driver’s seat naturally showing ever so slightly more signs of wear. Carpeting and floor mats throughout the cabin follow suit with very little room to fault. Although hardly anything major, both door cards perhaps show the most defects throughout the cabin, with slight fading, wear to the handles/material and a dash of overspray to the passenger’s side.
In the boot, you’ll find the spare wheel, which is matching in both appearance and tyre. You’ll also find the jack and a tonneau cover for those not-so-sunny days.

The Exterior

  • Resprayed exterior
  • Refurbished alloys
  • Eye-catching paintwork
Perhaps rather favourably, it would seem that the previous keeper had decided to focus the majority of their attention on ensuring the vehicle drives as sweet as it does today, with the exterior perhaps being last on the list. With that in mind, the striking yellow paintwork does show minor imperfections such as overspray, runs and various marks. That being said, these are only noticeable upon closer inspection, and seemingly don’t detract from the car’s overall charm out on the road.
As part of the vehicle’s restoration, the car was treated to refurbished wheels, which now sport matching Falken tyres, with plenty of tread. It seems unlikely that the restoration involved any brightwork, as the chrome bumpers are beginning to show signs of minor surface pitting upon close examination. Otherwise, exterior trim components like the lights and original badging seem to be in a rather tidy state for their age, with only a few minor imperfections.
Although perhaps not a concourse finish, this car presents itself in a state that allows itself to be enjoyed as intended where it truly matters, out on the road. A turn of the key and blip of the throttle will let you know where the car shines, in the mechanical department…

The Mechanics

  • Rebuilt engine
  • Recently serviced
  • Well maintained
  • New tyres
  • Lucas ignition coil
  • New battery
  • New fuel pump
Buyers will be pleased to know that this MGB benefits from a rebuilt engine in 2017, and now performs without a single known mechanical or electrical fault. Thanks to a Lucas ignition coil, the car fires up right away, and happily powers along exactly how these characterful roadsters should.

As the included paperwork will reflect, the vehicle has been well maintained over the years, even prior to its engine rebuild. In recent years, the vehicle has been fitted with the likes of a new battery, new fuel pump & filter, spark plugs, and 5 matching Falken tyres, courtesy of the current owner.

Summary

This gorgeous MGB shows off a recently resprayed yellow exterior, in keeping with the sunny conditions it should be enjoyed in. The car also boasts a near fully traceable history, along with a great maintenance record, and a rebuilt engine as part of its restoration. This quirky roadster now performs brilliantly, and will no doubt make the perfect companion to enjoy those sunny drives out with.
