1972 Mercedes-Benz 250S (W114)

***Vendor supplied images***

Highlights

  • Originally a US-market vehicle
  • Solid bodywork
  • Recently serviced and mechanically upgraded
  • Successfully completed a road trip to Austria

The Appeal

Eminently elegant, and impeccably built, the W114 was a valiant and very well-deserving flagship for Mercedes-Benz. Designed by Paul Bracq - who also designed the legendary 'Pagoda' - the new car felt stable and luxurious, with an interior as fine as its disciplined lines.

This particular car, originally based in the USA, has been well-maintained and is in good condition for its age. Picked out in the model's near-synonymous cream paintwork, it's a great ambassador for a much-loved model. The car has demonstrated plenty of reliability, having travelled to both Austria and Spain with little fuss.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally from America
  • Registered in the UK in 2012
  • The DVLA records two previous UK owners
  • Purchased in November 2022 due to its good condition and originality
  • Serviced at a local garage after purchase
  • Successfully completed a road trip to Austria and Spain
  • Always garaged during the current ownership
  • Lacks a detailed history but appears to have been well-maintained

The Condition

  • Solid body
  • Nicely-presented cream paintwork, with some chips and marks
  • Chromework carries light patina, commensurate with age
  • Wheels in good condition, new tyres fitted in 2022, including the spare
  • Underside is solid with light signs of wear
  • Interior is nicely presented in black
  • Air conditioning unit was not working at the time of purchase, thus was disconnected
  • However it is included with the vehicle
  • Some light wear to the wood veneers
  • Seats are free of any rips or tears
  • Carpets and headlining carry some wear but have plenty of life in them
  • Ultimately, this is a very solid example both inside and out

The Mechanics

  • 2.5 L M114 I6 powerplant
  • Automatic transmission with 4 gears
  • We're informed that the car is mechanically sound
  • New brake calipers installed on the rear, while the fronts were rebuilt
  • New original engine mountings were fitted at a cost of around £500 circa 2023
  • The car reportedly drives well with no faults to note
