Highlights
- Well maintained and huge history file
- Rare Italian exotic - only 10 registered in the UK
- Engine overhauled in recent years
The Appeal
Exclusivity is hard to come by, but with only 10 registered in the UK you will be unlikely to meet another Bora at your local cars and coffee meet.
Released in 1971, the Giugiaro designed and mid engined, V8 powered Bora brought Maserati technologically up to date with four wheel independent suspension, a first for the marque, and was a useable supercar with a comfortable and spacious interior and good sized front trunk.

The History and Paperwork
- Imported to the UK In 1988
- MOT exempt but tested to July 2023
- Repainted in 2009
- Engine overhaul 2008
The car was originally built in June 1972 and sold by Maserati dealer Autosport in Bologna on the 20th of June that year, and a letter from the Maserati records department show it is still in the original Glidden Salchi silver and black connolly leather.
It was imported to the UK in 1988 where it has had four owners who have taken great care to maintain and improve the car over the years, with receipts for a respray and engine overhaul and well as maintenance.

The Interior
- New carpets in 2006
- Original black Connolly leather
- Fantastic one piece bucket seats
The cabin is a fantastic piece of late sixties - early seventies cool, with its curving one piece black leather seats, their centre panels formed of rolled ribs from top to bottom. The Connolly hide has some colour wear on the drivers seat and a small hole worn in the centre but otherwise are very good.
The dashboard and centre console are leather covered and accented with chrome surrounds, dominated by the big speedo and rev counter behind a small leather rimmed steering wheel, which is in excellent condition.
The carpets were replaced in 2006 and the car has not been used extensively since so they remain in superb shape, and the door cards and headlining are also very good.

The rear of the cabin features a glass window to the engine compartment, glazed at the cabin and engine bay for sound isolation.
The Exterior
- Repainted in 2009
- Waxoiled soon after import to the UK
- Silver paint and stainless steel roof panel
Although not so easy to see on this silver car, the roof is a brushed stainless steel panel, combined with the large front and rear windscreens and flowing shape, it gives the Bora a futuristic almost concept car appearance, helped by the pop up head lights, both of which work as they should.
That roof panel is unblemished and the silver paint is also very good having been done in 2009 although there are some small scratches and blisters around the car.

The wheels and hubcaps look very good and are fitted with Pirelli P4000 tyres with very deep tread.
The Mechanics
- Top end rebuild in 2008
- Radiator just been rebuilt
- Recent clutch master cylinder
- New adjustable front dampers
- Recent battery and spark plugs
The Bora has been well cared for over the years with owners willing to spend what ever was required to keep it running well.
In 2008 £6000 was spent with a classic specialist who removed and reground all 4 camshafts and cam followers and the heads were fitted with bronze valve guides and refaced, and rebuilt with new valve springs along with various other service tasks and replacing some brake hard lines, and in 2006 it had new exhaust pipes.
In the last couple of years it has also had a new battery, some electrical repairs and rebuilt window wider motors. This year a new clutch master cylinder, adjustable front shock absorbers and the rear brakes overhauled.

Summary
Only 564 Boras were built, and with just 10 in the UK this is a rare opportunity to own a very good example of this sunning mid engined supercar, a car that showed what Giugiaro could do when unrestrained by the the needs of more ordinary cars.
