The Appeal
Jaguar pulled out all the stops for its tied and final iteration of the E-Type. While changes between Series I and Series II models had been minimal, the Series III was radically reworked with flared wheel arches, a large slatted grille and, most notably, twice the number of cylinders. Gone was the old XK straight-six in favour of a 5.3-litre V12 which could be ordered with either a manual or automatic gearbox.
Here we have the most desirable of Series III E-Types. It's a UK home market right-hand-drive, manual Open-Two-Seater, retaining its factory colour scheme: Old English White over a red hide interior. The vendor has offered this car once before, selling it to its most recent keeper in April 2022. Unfortunately, the owners health means he can no longer enjoy the car, so the vendor is helping it find a new home once again.
The odometer shows 87, 000 miles and although the vendor is unable to warrant this figure, they do believe it to be correct. The E-Type has won various Concours events over the years and has clearly been well cared for throughout its life. In October 2021, it was treated to extensive renovation work with E-Type Specialists, WinSpeed of Guildford. The invoice amounted to almost £7,200 and included comprehensive work to the engine, gearbox and ancillaries.
Well-prepared by the vendor in readiness for sale, this lovely Series III E-Type OTS would be a superb addition to any collection.
Old English White paintwork in very good order with little sign of age
Stunning red hide upholstery with minimal wear to report
Black folding soft top in very smart order
Modern retro-look stereo fitted
We've always enjoyed the more muscular look of the Series III when compared with earlier E-Type Jaguars. The Open Two Seater is considered by collectors to be the one to have, and this one looks particularly handsome in its Old English White over red upholstery.
The paint and chromework present beautifully and all doors, bonnet and boot lid appear to fit nicely. The bodywork looks arrow-straight down both sides and there's no obvious indication of any corrosion or damage. All wire wheels look in fine shape, and really suit the car.
On the inside, the upholstery shows very few signs of wear to the seats carpets and door cards. The Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel looks in fine fettle, as does the dashboard, instrumentation and controls. We understand the cabin electrics to be in good working order.
Recent comprehensive work on the engine, gearbox, and ancillaries by WinSpeed
Uprated brakes and standard power steering
Vendor states the vehicle is in good mechanical health
The manual gearbox pairs well with this Jag's torquey V12; equally well-suited to a spirited drive down a sinuous B road as a long road trip on Europe's autoroutes. The engine compartment presents beautifully on this example and the vendor assures us that the E-Type runs and drives very well indeed. We're informed that the vendor's workshop will inspect the car prior to sale, so bid with confidence on this very well-sorted E-Type.image.png3.29 MB
