1972 Ford Cortina 2000 GXL MK3

Vendor supplied images

Highlights

  • Subject to a full respray carried out to a high standard
  • Beautifully presented inside, out and under the bonnet
  • The vendor reports that it runs and drives exceptionally well

The Appeal

Hailing from the days when your MkIII Cortina’s trim level said a great deal about your social standing, owning a GXL was more than just a boot badge, aluminium trims and a vinyl roof, it meant you ruled the roost in the office car park.
We’re delighted to offer this 1972 example which benefits from a recent full respray. It remains commendably original to its factory GXL specifications inside and out, evoking the zeitgeist of Britain during the early ‘70s. The vendor assures us that it drives very well, so for those feeling nostalgic for their days as a regional manager, don’t miss the chance to make this Cortina your next acquisition.

The History and Paperwork

  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing
  • Right-hand drive
  • Factory GXL model - standing for “Grand Xtra Luxury”
  • Current UK registration

The Condition

  • Nicely presented throughout
  • Recently resprayed in a period-correct blue
  • Period RoStyle wheels with chrome embellishers
  • Uniroyal tyres which appear quite recent
  • Straight and corrosion-free bodywork
  • The underside is reportedly very sound
  • All looks in smart order around all four wheel arches
  • Smart chromework, badging and aluminium trim
  • The vinyl roof appears in fine shape
  • The interior looks largely original barre the addition of some aftermarket overmats to protect the carpet
  • Minimal wear to the upholstery and controls
  • We understand all the cabin electrics to be in good order

The Mechanics

  • 2.0-litre Pinto four-cylinder engine
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • Very clean and original-looking engine compartment
  • The vendor reports that it drives very well indeed
  • We’re not informed of any mechanical faults or untoward noises
