The Appeal

It was really with the Neue Klasse that BMW changed forever. The '50s had been rough on the company's fortunes - their luxury cars were beginning to look stuffy, their economy cars were old fashioned, and nobody was really interested in their bikes anymore thanks to the invasion of British motorcycles across the planet. The old bods of the company elected to start sawing their V8s in half and going down that route - but, thankfully, Herbert and Harald Quandt took a controlling interest and pumped fresh blood into the engineer's department.

With fresh cash running through their veins, BMW got to work on their first all-new car. It was lock, stock and barrel, too - new engine, new platform, new philosophy - something they hadn't done since the '30s. The result was a great looking car, sure - Hofmeister's styling set a blueprint for the next thirty years - but the real impact was just how much of a sporty saloon it was. The new car was fun to drive, easy to own, and great to look at.

This 1972 car comes to us in a fabulous standard. Family-owned from new, the car was extensively restored in 2019 with a host of new/old stock parts to maintain its originality. It's still carrying its original Atlantic Blue livery and is reportedly running just as well as you'd expect from Munich's finest.
