The Appeal
Often dubbed the "Baby E-Type" in reference to its six-cylinder engine and low-slung bodywork, the Triumph GT6 was an evolution of the Spitfire sports car. Offered exclusively in fastback coupé form, designed by Giovanni Michelotti, derived ostensibly from Triumph's successful Le Mans programme.
Since the GT6 used a 2.0-litre from the SC and Vitesse, it was seriously quick for its day, and later MkIII examples gained several small yet effective revisions to the chassis geometry and revised aerodynamics, resulting in a 112mph top speed and 10.1 second 0-60mph time.
This 1971 GT6 MkIII has received extensive care and attention over the years, as evidenced by its vast history file, which is brimming with invoices. In 2006, the car underwent a comprehensive body-off restoration and engine rebuild, while a full interior re-trim in 2014, featuring Mercedes black leather and a walnut dashboard, added a touch of luxury.
Three European toad trips were then carried out by the previous owner, visiting Spa and Le Mans, on which the Triumph reportedly performed faultlessly. For those seeking a highly usable and well-sorted GT6, this one is eminently worthy of consideration.
