1971 Triumph Bonneville T140V 750cc Café Racer

Highlights

  • Appealing 750cc Café Racer specification
  • Blends T120 and T140V elements
  • Superb condition reflecting sparing use
  • Neatly detailed with stand-out paintwork

The Appea

While car enthusiasts were busy hot rodding their four wheeled steeds, bikers were doing the same.  Evocatively named Café Racers and built around the Ace scene, these modded bikes were as capable as they were stylish.
Triumph and Norton were the most popular bases for these potent Brighton-bound bikes.  Alongside the official ‘Triton’ bikes, many were home built following the same make-do-and-improve ethos.
This striking Café Racer channels that history with its blend of T120 and T140V specification. It appears to have left the factory as the former but been latterly equipped with the 140’s 744cc engine and 5spd gearbox.
From its carefully detailed paintwork and bright chromework to its svelte bodywork, this gorgeous bike is a rare treat for enthusiasts of these iconic machines.

The History and Paperwork

  • First UK registered on 12th August 1971
  • VIN records show that this bike was built in early 1971, prior to July
  • DVLA records a colour change on 1st June 2017, was previously black
  • This is likely to have been when the Café Racer conversion was undertaken
  • The T140V was only available from 1973, subsequently equipped with the 744cc Triumph engine
  • V models were introduced at the 140’s launch and signified a 5spd gearbox
  • The T140 was an evolution of the earlier T120 with a 750cc engine instead of 650cc
  • Last MOT expired on 3rd July 2018 with no advisories
  • Has covered less than 500 miles since the last MOT test

The Condition

  • Eye-catching metallic blue paintwork with sleek café racer styling
  • Neat detailing including paintwork pinstriping
  • Appears to be an older restoration with little subsequent use
  • This has helped maintain the bike in superb condition with few signs of use
  • Bespoke decals evoke the classic 60s bikes
  • Bright chromework in good order with no visible scuffs or tarnishing
  • Original Smiths dials are well kept with clear decals
  • Trim, fittings and grips well presented with no noticeable damage or marks
  • Appears to be fitted with recent or new tyres showing good tread

The Mechanics

  • Appears to originally a T120 fitted with later T140V running gear
  • 744cc Triumph air cooled OHV parallel twin
  • 5 speed gearbox from T140V
  • Sparing use since what appears to have been a 2017 restoration
