The Appeal
The IIA lightly improved upon the stepchange that was the Series II because, quite simply, very little needed to change. And that continued throughout the models’ decade-long run. New competitors arrived, mainly from Japan, but none got close to Land Rover’s go-anywhere workhorse.
What made it great when new, still makes it great now. Even a 50+ year old example like this one can be put to hard work. You can’t say that about many similarly aged classics. And you certainly could subject this one to some tough love because it is in great shape following an extensive renovation by the previous keeper. The work was so good that it featured in a Land Rover magazine.
It included some desirable upgrades like a galvanised chassis and refurbished bulkhead. Now finished in light green with a recently fitted Exmoor tan interior, it is a beguiling mix of patina and new features, including parabolic springs.
The vendor reports that it runs and drives very well, with everything working as expected. To add reassurance, there is a fresh MOT to January 2026 despite this no longer being a legal requirement.
