The Appeal
The Fiat 500 is Italy's beloved car of the people. It is one of those cars which is universally loved and respected, as an important part of the automotive landscape in Italy. Its extremely compact design, rear mounted two-cylinder engine and retro styling make it one of those evergreen classic cars, which never go out of fashion.
This particular Fiat 500 is in extremely good condition. It has reportedly been fully restored and remains very clean and tidy. The vendor states that the engine has been renewed and that the bodywork has received much attention.
It’s clear that this Fiat has undergone a huge amount of restoration work, so this car offers an attractive opportunity to acquire an example of this popular model in wonderful condition.
The History and Paperwork
- Manufactured in 1971, making this one of the later R or Rinnovata models
- Many Italian ‘Revisione’ inspection documents
- Restoration completed in 2020
- Current ‘Revisione’ valid until 2023
The Interior
- Exceptionally clean throughout
- Recently retrimmed
- A famously efficient use of space
Although the interior of a Fiat 500 is of simple design, it is neatly packaged and uses all available space to the full.
This car’s upholstery is in very fresh condition, with the seats showing no signs of rips or stains. The matching door cards are equally clean, as are the carpets. All the trim and upholstery appears to have been recently replaced.
The dashboard is stylishly minimalist, with no more features than absolutely necessary, and is exceptionally clean. A wooden steering wheel is a nice touch, too, and this car even has the luxury of a heater.
The Exterior
- Beautifully resprayed in red
- Very clean underneath
- Wheels in great condition
The vendor informs us that this Fiat has been the subject of a respray recently, which is evidenced b the car’s excellent overall condition. There appears to be not a spot of dirt on this car, with the deep shine of the red paintwork obvious to see.
All the exterior trim and fittings, including the chrome bumpers, is present and correct, with the chrome bumpers showing no signs of pitting. The sunroof functions as it should do and the vinyl looks fresh and clean.
The good news continues on the underside, where the paint looks fresh, clean and undamaged and there are no signs of corrosion that we could discern, only some minor road dirt.
The Mechanics
- Engine renewed
- Exceptionally clean engine bay
- Many new components
Upon opening the engine compartment at the rear of the car, the first thing you will notice is just how clean the engine bay is. This leads us to believe that the car has seen little use since its restoration.
The seller states that the engine is ‘new’, and it certainly appears to be very clean and tidy. The little two-cylinder engine is said to sound sweet and run exactly as it should do.
The running gear appears to be in excellent condition, with the suspension rubbers showing almost no signs of use and even the transverse leaf springs looking fresh.
Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to acquire what appears to be a fully restored Fiat 500, which shows almost no evidence of use. It’s not often what we get the chance to enjoy someone else’s recently completed restoration.
Finished in the perfect colour and having a recently retrimmed interior, this 500 will certainly receive admiring glances wherever it goes.
