1970 Willys Jeep CJ-3B VIASA

***Vendor supplied images***

Highlights

  • A rare and fascinating piece of Spanish history
  • One of the first to be powered by the well-regarded Perkins 4.108 diesel engines
  • Presented in fantastic overall condition

The Appeal

By the end of the Second World War, Fascism had largely been driven out of Europe, leaving Franco’s Spain needing to rethink its geopolitical standpoint. Fearing the rise of Communism, Spain sided with the United States, establishing a diplomatic relationship that would bring American goods to Iberia including cars. VIASA (or Vehículos Industriales y Agrícolas, S.A.) was founded in 1960 to manufacture American Jeeps under licence from Willys Overland. The CJ-3B was soon launched and remained in production until 1983.
Here we have a 1970 example which is one of the first to be fitted with a Perkins diesel, as previous models still used the ‘Go Devil’ which had been around since 1937. Presented in very good overall condition, this Jeep is a fascinating piece of Spain’s history as well as a fun classic for those seeking an open-topped off-roader akin to those used by allied forces during the Second World War.
