The Appeal

Some classic T2s do shiny, others are like this one and wear their sun-kissed patina like a badge of honour. Quite rightly, we think, because no vehicle does sun, sand, surf quite as well as Volkswagen’s characterful camper.
This 1970 van spent its life in the dry, sun-drenched climes of Texas before arriving here in 2007. Its previous keeper of 20 years preserved its sun-kissed patina with regular treatment using Morris Ankor wax so that today it presents like an automotive painting or sculpture.
Beneath the patina it is solid, well kept and in good running order. The vendor took it in as a part exchange six months ago, since when he has serviced it and fitted new engine gaskets. Other work includes new carpet and insulation, new flooring and fitting a diesel heater.
This charismatic van could be used ‘as is’ or there is scope to lean further into its camper capabilities by overhauling the interior.
