The Appeal
Enjoying a production run from 1955 to 1975, the Karmann Ghia was Volkswagen’s first attempt at producing something a little more upmarket than their enormously successful but somewhat utilitarian Beetle. Built in conjunction with the Italian carrozzeria Ghia and German coachbuilders Karmann, the stunning Karmann Ghia went on to enjoy a highly successful 20 year production run.
A combination of solid and dependable Volkswagen mechanicals with beautiful Italian styling, each Karmann Ghia body was individually hand-formed, resulting in a gorgeous seamless exterior appearance.
Offered here for auction is a 1970 example presented in the attractive specification of dark grey paintwork over a black interior. With a history of 2 former keepers and having been the subject of an older restoration, this Karmann Ghia is reported to drive well and perform nicely out on the road but is now at the stage where it would benefit from some further bodywork attention.
Undoubtedly one of the best looking Volkswagens ever built, the super stylish Karmann Ghia Coupe is the absolute epitome of the relaxed air-cooled cruiser.
