1970 Rolls Royce Shadow 1 Long Wheel Base

Highlights

 • Original inside and out
 • Superb original paint
 • Beautiful condition
 • Long wheelbase version
 • Documented history

The Appeal

There is something about this car that makes it one of the most appealing Rolls Royces we have seen in awhile. The first owner kept a monogrammed log book of every journey, fill up and service.

With its dark green paint and superb condition, it stands out as something very special.

The History and Paperwork

 • Log book kept by the owner of every drive and job from 1970 to 1987
 • MOT exempt but tested until September
 • Two original dealer service books of stamps

The Interior

 • Long wheelbase so huge space in the rear
 • Beautiful wood on the dash doors and window frames
 • Stunning leather
 • Excellent carpets
The cabin only shows very light signs of use. The quality of the materials is evident as the leather seats, deep and soft, have just a light patina to them, the carpets have almost no signs of wear and the wood which is liberally spread around the dashboard, window frames, door caps and rear passenger mirror frames.
The doors are covered in the same fine hide, with heavy chrome door furniture and window frames, and the headlining is excellent leather in a similar light tone.
The controls are extremely light, a small column shift for the automatic gearbox and the large steering wheel is unmarked, and the original radio is present in the in the lower centre console.

The Exterior

 • Original, deep and fine quality Rolls Royce paint
 • Excellent chrome bumpers and grill
 • Coat of arms on the rear doors
You can see the quality of the paint from close up or far away, there is a depth and weight to the finish that only very high quality work and materials can give. It is an interesting and attractive colour, a green so deep that from some angles it looks black.

There are very few marks in the finish and the panels are not dented or damaged. There is a small mark on the rear door which will be polished out before the car is sold. The chrome of the bumpers, door handles and grill are superb, and the Spirit of Ecstasy statue is also immaculate and the black vinyl roof is in fine shape.

It has big, full cover hubcaps in stainless with black detail rings highlighted with hand painted pinstripes and with Avon tyres all round, there is no damage and the tyres have good tread.

The Mechanics

 • Silky smooth drive
 • Quiet V8 engine
 • Well maintained car
The V8 fires up instantly and idles very quietly. Pulling away it is astonishingly smooth, the engine remaining refined and unruffled and the gearbox takes up indiscernibly.

Looking under the car, the chassis appears clean and solid with old or original under seal on the floor pan.

Summary

This Is a very well presented Shadow 1, unusual for being a long wheel-base example in such an elegant and unusual colour, with astonishing early history as well as a possible royal connection. It remains in fantastic condition throughout, with excellent original paint and interior.
