The Plus
Undeniably one of the prettiest cars ever made, the Alpine A110 was launched in 1963 using Renault mechanical components, housed in a fibreglass body mounted on a steel chassis.
Most of the mechanical parts came from the Renault Dauphine, or later the R8 Gordini. It was a very successful rally car thanks to its lightweight bodywork and rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout, which made it responsive and perfect for gravel and snow.
It was in production for over 14 years and this example dates from 1970, right in the middle of that period, a variant that has been in the hands of its current owner for a decade.
It is in generally good condition and is fitted with a rally tripmaster and roll bar if you wish to use it for historic competition. The car is fitted with a completely rebuilt 1386 cm2 engine (77mm stroke and 75mm70 bore, 5 litre oil sump and refurbished Weber carburettors).
When the Alpine A 310 was launched at the Dieppe plant, all A110 berlinettes were assembled at the Thiron-Gardais plant. The model on display is the 408th from Thiron-Gardais, the plant that assembled the 5 versions marketed in 1971, namely the '85', 1300G, 1300 S, 1600 S and 1600S Group 4.
This 1300 G was fully restored at the end of 2006 by professionals (bodywork and mechanics) following its purchase in Belgium by the current owner.

Finished in the traditional Alpine Blue, this A110 looks incredible and is in excellent condition. Look closely and you'll find a few small spider web cracks in the fibreglass panels, but nothing of note and the underside of the chassis looks in exceptional condition.
It sits on three-bolt alloy wheels, which really suit the car. The paintwork is in good condition throughout and it has never suffered any accident-related damage.
Inside, the Alpine has a five-dial dashboard with a three-spoke leather steering wheel, which really suits the nature of the car. It's also fitted with a tripmaster, an additional map-reading light and a roll bar, making it ideal for rallying or historic time trials.
It looks good with no obvious problems, apart from a slight patina on the seats and top of the dashboard.

Under the rear bonnet is the Renault 8 Gordini engine, which is quite a powerful unit for its age and capacity - the official output is 103bhp, which, along with the Alpine's fibreglass bodywork, makes it quite a lively car.
What's more, the car has benefited from recent work on the brakes, which are fitted with improved calipers, and according to the seller, it's both lively and great fun to drive. The suspension, gearbox and running gear are described as being in good condition and there are no known faults with the engine.
