The Appeal

Classic Land Rovers are big Meccano kits. You can take them to pieces and rebuild them using parts from other Land Rover models. It’s this spirit of ‘make do and mend’ that’s kept these hard-working 4x4s on the road all these years, including this Range Rover, which began life as a three-door ‘Suffix A’ model in September 1970.
We are informed that this Range Rover was re-bodied sometime during the 1990s using a later five-door ‘Classic’ shell fitted to the modified original chassis. A series of photographs depicting this work reportedly accompanies the vehicle.
Today, you wouldn’t dream of cutting up an early three-door Range Rover, but there was a time when these were merely inexpensive old cars. It’s likely this early chassis would have ended up on the scrap heap if it hadn’t undergone this conversion work, and, in fairness to whoever completed the work, they did a very good job.
This Range Rover, resplendent in a desirable colour scheme, is fitted with the desirable 3.5-litre Rover V8 petrol engine and an automatic gearbox. It boasts an enviable specification and, thanks to its early chassis number, benefits from road tax and MOT exemption.
Presented in very good overall condition, this intriguing classic 4x4 is supremely usable. The chance to own such an early Range Rover chassis is surely not one to miss.
