The Appeal

“Simplify and add lightness” - that was the mantra of Lotus founder Colin Chapman. Even the firm’s first 2+2 GT ‘adhered to this philosophy, the Elan +2 weighing in at under 900 kilograms. That made it easily the lightest car in its class and, as a result, one of the best-driving four-seater sports cars of all time.

This 1970 example is a rare original Spanish market car. It was completely restored; the car was disassembled, and everything was renewed, including a fully rebuilt engine which the vendor remarks is “like new”. The paintwork, upholstery, and interior woodwork are also entirely new.

The restoration work was completed approximately four years ago, and the reassembly began but was never completed due to lack of time and space. As the photographs attest, the project is around 90% complete, with only minor assembly details remaining. Almost all the parts are present to finish the assembly, except for some gaskets, rubber seals and a few other miscellaneous components.

The Condition

The fibreglass bodywork was painted with high-quality materials four years ago to a good standard
