1970 Lancia Fulvia Rallye 1.3 S

The Appeal

The Fulvia kickstarted Lancia's rallying success story. Barre 1970, it would win every Italian Rally Championship from 1965 to 1973, as well as the 1969 European Rally Championship and legendary Monte Carlo Rally win in 1972 at the hands of Sandro Munari and Mario Mannucci.

So why was the Fulvia so successful? Well, it all comes down to that drivetrain. With a narrow-angle V4 sat over the driven front wheels, the Fulvia had a huge traction advantage over its rear-wheel-drive competitors, for whom there was sideways action a-plenty, but getting the power down was a challenge. The Fulvia, therefore, made good use of its relatively modest horsepower, and its low overall mass ensured handling was sublime - no matter the surface it was on.

Today, these rally-bred sports coupés are greatly sought after, and this Italian home market 1970 example was imported to the UK in 2021. Fulvia aficionados will already know it ticks all the right boxes. As a 'Rallye S', it's the last and most sought-after incarnation of the first series cars, with 94bhp- (later cars had 90bhp) - as well as its HF-spec oil cooler, brake servo assistance and opening front quarter lights, ideal for the warmer months.

Finished in the desirable metallic Jamaica Blue with a cream interior, this Fulvia is very easy on the eye; surely one of the prettiest Italian sports cars of its day (and that's saying something)!

Following extensive recent mechanical refurbishment, this Lancia is ready to enjoy. Its specification and condition will certainly be the envy all all fellow Lancisti.

Front a bit low & rear too high! Why?

This is how a previous owner has set up the suspension, it doesn't seem to affect the handling or driving characteristics. If the new owner would like to change it can be adjusted be retorquing the suspension while there is some ballast in the rear

Details reference it being a 5-speed gearbox, is that correct?
