- Build started in the US and finished in the UK
- 125 miles covered since build completed
The Appeal
If you’re a fan of the 1991 futuristic western ‘Harley Davidson and the Malboro Man’ starring Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson, or you simply appreciate a well-built custom chopper, then this is the bike for you.
The brainchild of Death Row Motorcycles’ owner in the United States, this replica of the on-screen ‘Black Death’ bike has been recently completed in the UK by Fullbore Motorcycles. With a recent MOT and all necessary paperwork present, this Harley is ready to be registered and enjoyed on UK roads.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in 1970
- Movie replica build started by Death Row Motorcycles
- Imported to Britain by the vendor from the US in 2021
- Build completed by Fullbore Motorcycles
- Not yet registered in UK but all paperwork present
- MOT until June 2023
- 125 miles covered since rebuild
The Condition
- Built from legendary Harley Davidson 1340 Evo FX
- Bare metal finish
- Extensive use of new and reconditioned parts
Having been recently completed, this ‘Black Death’ recreation really looks the part with its black frame, bare metal finished tank and rear mudguard.
The vendor informs us that the decals are accurate recreations of those used on the movie bike making this one of the most faithful replicas of ‘Black Death’ in existence.
Due to some dampness over the winter months, there are some signs of surface corrosion appearing on the bare metal areas of this bike. The vendor advises that the next owner may wish to have the bike re-lacquered, although the bike could easily be enjoyed as is, so long as a smattering of light patination doesn’t phase you.
All parts used during the build were new or reconditioned, so the brightwork on the forks, wheels and tyres is in very good condition. Having covered so few miles, the wheels and tyres are in excellent shape and the chrome appears lustrous under natural light.
The Mechanics
- 1340 Evo engine
- Belt drive
- Very loud exhaust note
The starting point for this project was a Harley Davidson 1340 Evo FX. Its 1340cc V-twin engine is here finished in matt black to match the on-screen bike and the vendor reports that it is very loud when running. A nice touch that carefully emulates the movie bike is the colour coordinated HT leads with spark testing windows. Details such as this demonstrate how accurate this recreation is.
As you would expect of a recent rebuild, the bike rides very well, reportedly accelerating, changing gear and stopping exactly as it should.
Summary
As such a faithful replica of the ‘Black Death’ bike, this Harley Davidson is undeniably awesome and is bound to attract admiring gazes wherever it goes. Having been built by two renowned custom bike specialists both stateside and in the UK, this high quality build is as much a bike to be used as it is to look at and should provide the next owner with many hours of enjoyment.
