The Appeal

When automotive designer Flaminio Bertoni and aeronautical engineer Andre Lefebvre collaborated at Citroen on the design of the DS little did they know that the timeless appeal and advanced engineering would place the DS firmly in the number 3 position of the greatest cars of all time according to Classic and Sportscar magazine.  Put simply the DS was so far ahead of the opposition that initially the French buyers were wary of the car that looked unlike anything on the road.  With advanced hydro pneumatic suspension, disc brakes, swivelling headlights and advanced aerodynamic styling it was a startling sight then, and still looks as stunning and individual today.
This example was purchased by the seller in 1990 and he has enjoyed the Citroen with his family for 21 years.  It was driven extensively for the first few years of ownership as a daily driver, and later it was used for longer journeys to France.  It was used to complete the Three Castles Regularity Trial, based in and around Llandudno, in North Wales on two occasions.
In recent years the Citroen has been driven less often as other cars were vying for attention, and now the Seller has reluctantly decided it’s time to part company as circumstances have changed.
In good useable condition the Citroen is running well with some major work completed and a history of regular maintenance.

Summary

If you have never experienced the outstanding DS ride quality then you are missing one of the best automotive experiences. On rough roads the suspension soaks up even the largest of potholes with barely a murmur, and once on a smooth fast road the ride is effortless and superb.  The seats are probably amongst the most comfortable ever available so combined with the ride the overall experience is unforgettable.
Whenever a group of classic car enthusiasts discuss the significant cars of the 20th century the Citroen DS will always crop up, and for good reason. They were so ahead of their time, still more comfortable than most modern cars, and just so chic and stylish.  Now in a world of dismal SUVs the DS just can’t be beaten for style, looks and head turning ability.
