The Appeal

Chevrolet’s marketing team didn’t mess around. When it came to naming the firm’s new ‘personal luxury’ car they evoked the then-height of European style, culture and luxury: Monte Carlo.
The new car was built to mix the understated style and cossetting luxury of European rivals with the urge of the firm’s 60s muscle cars. Even ‘entry level’ Monte Carlos like this one got the firm’s 250bhp 350CI 5.7L V8. Naturally those same marketeers called it the ‘Turbo Fire’ engine.
This early Monte Carlo - built in 1970, the first year of production - is beautifully kept in red with white vinyl trim. It is a very well preserved car, the interior being a particular treat for the many enthusiasts of these generous slices of Americana.
Since arriving in the UK in 2017 it has been well maintained. The history file shows a run of receipts and invoices for parts covering the suspension, brakes and servicing, including the transmission. The result is a very tidy car that runs and drives equally well.
