The Appeal
In 1959 Volvo’s new Amazon embraced modern ‘ponton’ styling, exhibiting neat design flourishes such as its small tail fins. And yet somehow dispute that modernity it came to personify a certain robust solidity for which the firm has ever since been known.
Perhaps that is down to its ground-breaking use of seatbelts or its fundamental reliability, whether pounding the snow-covered roads of Scandinavian or dashing across rally stages in African. Or simply completing the school run or daily commute with the minimum of fuss.
This late model Amazon is that rare treat, a two owner car that has been with its seller since 1971. In charming timewarp condition, attesting to careful ownership, it could be a fantastic starter classic or great addition to an enthusiast’s collection.
