1969 Triumph Spitfire MK3

Highlights

  • Extensive restoration work undertaken
  • Original wood-trimmed centre-mounted dash
  • Recently underwent extensive mechanical work

The Appeal

Introduced in 1967, the third iteration of the Spitfire was a car that truly did relish in the world’s love affair with the British roadster. With its simple styling, perky handling and ever-impressive charisma, it was yet another global success for Spitfire - with over 70% travelling overseas.
This example, intended for the international market, arrived in the UK in 2012, and has recently undergone plenty of mechanical work - which we’re informed amounts to thousands of pounds. As a result, it looks to us like a motor in simply excellent fettle.

The History and Paperwork

  • Sadly we’ve not been informed of this vehicle’s history
  • However, it is an overseas example imported from Ireland
  • First registered in the UK in 2012
  • In current ownership since 2018
  • Currently indicates 70,143 miles on a five-figure odometer
  • In the past 300 miles, the car underwent a thorough restoration
  • The vendor informs us that the car will come with invoices for all the parts, the work was done by the owner

The Interior

  • Impressive period interior
  • Original configuration with wooden centre-mounted dashboard
  • Some light wear to the dashboard fascia, though nothing too substantial
  • Period switches, dials and knobs with light patina
  • All instruments are clean and easy to read
  • We’ve received no reports of any faults with the instruments
  • Seats are in good order with only some damage to the corners of both seats on the back side
  • Wood-trimmed gearstick and branded steering wheel in good condition
  • Carpets appear to be in fine fettle with no faults
  • Floorpans have recently been rust-treated and repainted
  • Boot is in good, clean condition and conceals a spare wheel

The Exterior

  • Excellent bodywork with no dents or dings
  • Fully renewed including refurbished wheel arches
  • Paintwork in good order with only light signs of wear
  • Brightwork in good order with no significant faults
  • Glasswork and lenses are in good condition
  • Soft top appears clear of rips and tears
  • The car is sat on its period-accurate wire wheels
  • These are shod in Hankook tyres
  • Following treatment, repaint and restoration, the underside is in excellent order

The Mechanics

  • 1.3L Standard SC I4 powerplant
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • Engine is in excellent order, in a solid-looking engine bay
  • Work done - reportedly 300 miles ago - includes:
    • Engine cleaned, painted and resealed with new freeze core plugs
    • All seals, washers and filters repaired
    • Full rebuild of the gearbox
    • New performance aluminium radiator
    • Overhauled brakes with new braided hoses
    • New stainless steel O.E spec back box
    • New coolant system with silicon hoses
    • New speedometer cable
    • Fully restored chassis, floor pans, arches and underside
    • All the above were also repainted and rust treated
    • New front wheel bearings
    • New rear wheel cylinders
    • Fully serviced
  • Reportedly this has come to a sum of thousands of pounds
  • Car is reportedly in superb working order
  • We’ve not been informed of any faults throughout

Summary

The continuous love affair with the British roadster is unparalleled - and has clearly continued with this cossetted, well-loved car. We’ve no doubt that this charming Spitfire will continue this trend, and work its way into the heart of any enthusiast.
