The Appeal
Here is a real find. It is a one keeper, early 911 that has never been restored and oozes originality. That it is a 911E with the fuel injected, 140bhp Type 901 2litre engine adds to the appeal. Just 858 911E Targas like this one were ever built.
Recently arrived in Czechia, it presents beautifully in Burgundrot red metallic, 14in Fuchs and a highly preserved black interior. There is even an optional 5spd gearbox and exceptionally rare Coolair air conditioning.
It is unlikely you’ll easily find another 911E quite like this one. From specification to provenance, this is one not to miss.

Beyond the desirable specification, much of the appeal of this car lies in its highly original condition. It lends it a character and charisma that can often be lacking from restored examples. Reportedly in the hands of a single keeper until its recent arrival in Czechia, its life in sunny California likely explains the beautifully preserved condition.
The lovely burgundy metallic paintwork adds to the appeal, complementing the 14in Fuchs alloys and brushed aluminium accents of the factory Targa models. A set of correct gold badges neatly detail this well designed car. Look closely and you’ll spot the original antennae for the Blaupunkt radio and the protective flap for filling fuel. The originality inevitably means there are some minor marks and imperfections - visible in the photographs - but none detract from the overall finish. Likely they could be left as is or sympathetically renovated.
The story continues inside where a highly preserve black cabin retains its factory-correct specification. The only modification is a delightful one - a period Coolair air conditioning system fitted in the USA. This is reported to work correctly but has been disconnected. The interior fittings and trim are in very good condition inside.
The Mechanics
- Fuel injected Type 901 2litre 140bhp air cooled engine
- Factory correct green top to engine visible in photographs
- Dogleg 5spd manual transmission
- Partial engine restoration and reported to run smoothly and very well
- Suspension and brakes reported to operate very well without issues
The 2litre 911E was only available for one model year - 1969 - which makes these early, sweet-reving 140bhp cars particularly rare. The Targa version is even rarer with just a few hundred built.
This car mates that popular engine with a desirable 5spd factory-correct gearbox that makes high speed touring more relaxing. We are told that the engine has been partially rebuilt and runs both smoothly and well. It retains its correct green painted finish.
The vendor advises that the car starts, runs and drives well with good suspension and brakes.
