The plus
Often recognised as Matra's first pure design, the 530 owes much to its racing-oriented predecessor, the Djet. Designed to offer a more comfortable and user-friendly design, the Matra was imagined by Philippe Guédon, who opted for a resolutely Avant-Garde style. With its original, angular lines, it stands out for its retractable headlights, targa roof and compact architecture with central engine, combined with a spacious cabin and surprisingly large boot.
Although it was sometimes criticised for lacking elegance, it was a fascinating and unique car in the panorama of French vehicles of the time, with features that were ahead of their time. This 1969 model, the 'A' version before the restyling by Studio Michelotti, is a fine ambassador for this truly singular model.
Inherited from an enthusiast who bought it in 1999, this car was restored some 24 years ago and is still in very good condition. With a Technical Inspection valid until November 2026 and up-to-date servicing, it remains ready for use.
