The History and Paperwork

  • Built in the UK in May 1969 and shipped in June the same year to a dealership in the US
  • It is believed that the car had two owners in the US, with the first and second sandwiched between a 15-year stay in a museum
  • Imported by its current owner to the UK in 2015 who has carried out light cosmetic restorative works and a full mechanical overhaul
  • Has covered around 3,000 miles in total since 2015
  • Provenance is confirmed by an official Jaguar Hertigate Trust certificate
  • MOT exempt but the seller is happy to arrange for fresh certificate if required
  • V5 log book present in the owner’s name
  • Original service book, owners manual and “dog tags” (export papers) are part of the impressive collection of historic documents that accompany the vehicle
  • Private plate MSV 269 is included in the sale
  • The original seats, gearbox and diff have been replaced but are included in the sale as spare parts

The Interior

  • The interior is in excellent condition throughout, with the original dashboard, steering wheel and trim pieces standing the test of time tremendously well
  • Leather sports seats have been fitted are in keeping with the car’s aesthetic. Original seats have been re-covered and are included in the sale as spares
  • Carpets are all original and have not been refurbished as they in great shape
  • The headlining has been renewed along with some of the leather trim pieces
  • The tachometer and speedometer have been calibrated to digital and match the car’s new gearing

The Exterior

  • Stunning bodywork has no visible damage and is presented in the original colour of pearlesecent blue
  • Paintwork is equally as impressive with virtually no flaws or blemishes to note
  • Beautiful 6.5x15 wirewheels are brand new and are fitted with new 205/70 tyres
  • All chrome trim including the bumpers, mirrors and door handles are original to the car and in excellent shape with very few signs of age 
  • Headlights, taillights and all glass components are in fantastic condition
  • Front and rear jacking points had not been used correctly in the past, and these were replaced with new material
  • A poor previous repair was found on the rear wing. All of this was cut out and replaced with brand new steel with the whole side of the car repainted to match the original colour perfectly
  • The bonnet hump was damaged during transit and a small dent was corrected
  • All bodywork reconditioning was completed to a very high standard and documented with pictures that are available upon request
  • Underside is in great shape as demonstrated by the photographs with underseal providing an additional layer of underbody protection
Though the car was in very good overall condition upon import, it required a small amount of refurbishment and paintwork to get the car to its current fantastic standard. It really is in outstanding condition on the outside with effectively no noticeable visual flaws.

The Mechanics

  • Runs and drives exceptionally well thanks to extensive mechanical reconditioning and a host of modern upgrades that are sympathetic to the car’s original character
  • The engine has been treated to a full strip down, with the block cleaned and re-assembled with new rings, shells, timing chain etc.
  • The cylinder head has had a full refurbishment by a specialist engineering firm
  • Valves were replaced with new items and series 3 camshifts have been fitted
  • Running Jenvey heritage throttle bodies with modern fuel injection while maintaining a classic look under the bonnet
  • New full big bore stainless steel and exhaust and manifold from Classicfabs sounds absolutely brilliant
  • An uprated bigger-core radiator with modern electric fans ensure that steady engine temperatures are maintained regardless of external conditions
  • A brand-new 5-speed alloy gearbox with short shift supplied by Realm Engineering has been installed with an aluminium lightweight flywheel and new uprated clutch
  • Rear axle assembly was removed and totally stripped down and reconditioned
  • A new 2.88:1 differential provides relaxed cruising on the motorway
  • All hubs have been replaced and the car has new 4-pot brake calipers, discs and pads 
  • 4x brand new Gaz adjustable shock absorbers with new springs and polybushes
  • A new compressor was fitted with for the air conditioning with new pipework throughout
  • Power steering rack has been removed, stripped down fully reconditioned 
An extensive mechanical overhaul over the last few years ensures that this beautiful Series II E-Type drives as good as it looks.
The original engine has been retained but completely overhauled with modern ancillary parts and gearbox that ensure greater reliability and driveability but crucially retain the classic E-Type experience.
A similar story can be told of the steering and handling parts, with the upgraded suspension and brakes ensuring it handles fantastically well on the road. 
Since the reconditioning work was completed, the car has covered around 1,800 miles in total.
