THE APPEAL
When it comes to the most remembered names in classic motoring, Cortina is up there in the premier league. The family Ford lived through 20 years and four generations – indeed, memories are made of Cortina.
The Mk 2 model was introduced in late 1966, a squared-off, restyled and smarter interpretation of a classic design. Styled by visionary designer Roy Brown, it was years ahead of its time and became a a staple of every street scene in the UK – and beyond.
The beyond here is important, as this one was assembled in South Africa in 1968. It’s a 1600 GT that was bought as a solid and very presentable car, then restored with a few minor modifications including the addition of a four-branch manifold and twin Weber carburettors.
Freshly imported to the UK, it’s in wonderful condition and ready to use and enjoy.
